Man Bags...

Question:
Hey All - I've been looks at a lot of bags lately and wondering what you thought of them or what kind of bags you carry with you.
I've seen some THEpropertyOF bags.. and they seems quite nice. Like the LUKE work bag or the Carter Day bag. Does anyone have anything fro these guys? What do you think about the quality + price?
What about HEADporter? Does anyone carry these around.. I like of them but they also seem very expensive... What you think about these?
Any other Day/ Work bag recommendations? I'm thinking more about a leather material, instead of canvas, but any suggestions are welcome.
This Helmet bag seems pretty nice too.
Answer:
I carry a very old (inaugural season) John Varvatos laptop messenger bag which is amazing. You know it's good when it still smells like leather as is strong and supple even after 6+ years of abuse.
I've seen some decent bags by Jas MB, though they are more expensive now then when I first saw them for reasonable prices in 2004, seeing that theyt are now pretty popular within certain circles. Margiela makes some cool bags, as does Dries van Noten (the FW 2004 bags were my favorite of all the Dries man bags) if you've got the cash.
More recently, I've seen some interesting "Doctors" type of bags from BIlly Kirk which are really not bad...
Answer:
Property of... bags are pretty affordable and are well made.
I have the Adam work bag and it's held up really well so far. It's sturdy and pretty much waterproof and the strap is wide enough to be comfortable.
I think it's a very good price/quality ratio.
Answer:
I've owned my Jack Spade canvas bag for a while now and its been holding up just great. Its starting to show some wear, but it has been getting quite beat up over the year.
Answer:
yeah i kinda feel like jack spade is persona non grata around here but i really like my waxwear bag that i've got. it's just big enough and it's held up really well.
Answer:
ohhh I was Just looking at the JAck Spade Site.. I really like those FIle Cases - Drill Nylon + Waxwear...
Answer:
Nice Messenger bags too...
Answer:
Right now, I'm trying to pick between a Kifaru X-Ray and a TAD Gear FAST Pack EDC.
If you're going to spend $300 on a backpack, Porter is just goddamn stupid.
Answer:
Never been a big fan of PALS-equipped gear, for the money. If you want attachment points for magazines, flashbangs and other items, why not go for a system where you can reach the (i.e. vest or drop-leg rig) instead of the backpack?
Answer:
Because I don't need attachment points for mags, grenades, or radios, but attachment points small external bags for headphones, water bottles, pens, power adapters, flashlights, etc. Besides, if I did need to hold grenades and mags, they make a vest that hooks up with the FAST Pack, and you can always use pouches on the bag for reserves.
Answer:
Personally I don't see why PALS (or any other system like MOLLE) are needed for non-combat essentials (e.g. headphones and pens, as you mention) so I still don't think they're worth paying extra for. If you don't need to get to them in a hurry (e.g. during a firefight) then there are many non-PALS equipped bags that are available, for much less cash.
Your cash, your decision.
Answer:
Well, its not an obscure japanese brand so less people are going to rave about it around here. Still, its rather stylish, it holds up very well and it does the job. Can't argue with that.
Answer:
It's a fair point, but aside from the webbing, they're also exceptionally well made and very good at their basic purpose, which is carrying lots of things. I could pick up a Maxpedition pack or something for half the price, but Maxpedition seems to have designed every single one of their backpacks to be just the wrong size for all the things I want to carry.
Answer:
I like the bridle leather and the waxwear bags, but I find the majority of the designs rather hohum. There is really nothing worth raving about. The Greene Street line bags do come in some interesting colors though, and are pretty affordable for bang-around bags. I have actually bee thinking of getting a pale grey with orange lined daddy diaper bag (which is exactly the same as the normal bag, but with a changing pad.)
Answer:
In regards to messenger bags, I like the Utah and Taiga collections from Vuitton. They're both leather, not the regular LV-covered canvas. I don't know much about the Utah line as it's relatively new, but the Taiga leather stuff seems to hold up really well. I'm hoping to get the Taiga 'Dersou' messenger for Christmas.
As far as backpacks go, I have no suggestions. I have a large canvas Prada rucksack, but it was purchased in Italy and is nothing like the nylon Prada backpacks sold here in the states at Barney and Neimans.
