identifying vintage ray bans...

Question:
I was making my way through one of bangkok's markets this weekend when I bartered a good deal for a pair of really old ray bans. I know asia has more fake sunnies than LA has fake chests but they defintely look the stuff. oldschool wire wrap earpieces and a worn leather bosch and lomb case, etc. I was wondering if there'd be any way of identifying them in terms of era of production and any other interesting characteristics. I checked under the bridge and there what seems to be a serial number inscribed in the metal. it reads "B&L Ray Ban 58(followed by a square)14"
anybody have any idea what the story on these might be? I really like them and it'd be nice to find out if they real old gear, maybe traded from some on-leave GI at a patpong show or something, vietnam era.
much thanks,

Answer:
Some old Ray Ban aviators were 14kt GF, which means they were gold-filled. However, I have also seen some in solid 14kt gold.
