Question:
In a nutshell, what's the difference between the 2 forum jeans?
Anyone buying both?
Answer:
I think the biggest difference being the denim used. The SUFU one has the 1000xx denim from warehouse, which is nice, but personally if i had the cash, the fit of the stylefourm 5ep and the prospect of the outcome has my bet on what's better. SUFU patch is neat though

Polyrock beat me to it, but the Sufu is definitely more repro-ish. It's supposed to be a l3vis 66 cut, but with a lower rise--so repro-inspired, I guess. There's pics of cmf wearing the prototype
here. Blue in Green's page on the jeans is
here.
The warehouse 1000xx denim is supposed to fade most like vintage levis, but I don't know how you verify that. In the pics, it looks to be very blue, if you know what I mean. I see more color depth in the 5ep denim--greens and reds. As I only wear jeans nights/weekends, the contest part of it doesn't really interest me, but they seem like a cool pair of jeans and the price was right. I should say I'm a bit concerned about the size of the sufus, and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up trying to sell mine.
Judging from the measurement charts, the sufu jean will have a slightly lower rise and less taper.
Answer:
thanks for the info
those look cool (esp the patch) but the 5EPs are definitely more to my liking, cut-wise
It was a good idea for 5EP to make the SF jeans sanforized and true to size at the waist. It sounds like SuFu is STF from the couple posts I read, which is cool given it's a vintage repro...but then you get 100 page threads on what size to buy and how much shrinkage yadda yadda
Answer:
In a nutshell, the 5EPxSF jean has a more modern feel, and the SuFu Warehouse has a more repro feel.
I don't own a pair of the SuFu jeans, and have just seen them once. On the other hand, I have seen every size of the 5EPxSF jean, and have some left around, so obviously I can speak more to the 5EPxSF.
The main difference between the jeans, as already stated, is in the denim. The Warehouse jean is, iirc, completely natural indigo. Natural indigo jeans tend to have a lighter, true blue, color, and the Warehouse 1000x denim is not an exception. The 5EP denim used in the 5EPxSF jean is 50% natural and 50% pure indigo. The result is a darker denim with more complementary tones (I would say that greens and greys dominate.) The 5EPxSF denim is considerably more complex. I prefer this, but YMMV. The 5EP denim is also has a smoother finish, which I assume is due to singing (Godmother would have to chime in here,) while the SuFu denim has the "hairy" feel (especially after washing) that is characteristic of a lot of vintage style denim. Both denims were dipped by national treasures. Maybe the same one. I dunno.
The hardware on the 5EPxSF is (objectively) much better than that on the Warehouse jeans. The 5EP hardware is actually higher grade than that used on nearly all jeans, from whatever continent or country. Of course, the Warehouse jeans have a more vintage, Levi's like hardware and details.
The overall finishing of the jeans is quite different. The repro jeans generally use a thicker thread, and fewer colors of thread, then modern jeans. This comparison of the 5EPxSF and SUFU Warehouse jean holds true.
The fit is actually not disimilar. Actually, from the measurements, I would say that the rise on the SUFU Warehouse jean is higher for the size, but of course, the sizing on the 5EPxSF jean is much less forgiving than on the SuFu jean, so far actually comparable sizes (even accounting for shrinkage) the SuFu jean is probably very slightly lower rise than the 5EPxSF. The seat is a little slimmer on the 5EPxSF, so the top block looks a little straighter and narrower.

^^^
To sum up what my little cup of green tea ice cream said, 5EPxSF > SuFuW.
Answer:
i could be wrong, but i don't think the warehouse jeans are natural indigo.....if they are, man people are really getting an amazing deal for that cheap a price.....
the greencast of the 5ep's is why i like their denim so much....
Answer:
To be fair, they're totally different aminals.
And the natural indigo/national treasure/president's book of secrets thing refers to the prize for the sufu contest, not the contest jean itself.
Sufu member sptzbrg's Warehouse 1000xx after 1 year (not the same cut as the contest jeans):
Answer:
Okay, my bad about the natural indigo. I thought that's what someone said to someone else :)
Answer:
I was actually really interested when you mentioned it because it would be so freaking cheap for a pair of natural indigo jeans. Would have made me throw out my oni's out the window.
either way, whodini is right 5EPxSF >> SUFUxWAREHOUSE
Answer:
werd. After being outside in the light for a short bit, I really dug the way the denim looks. To me there is a greyishness to the indigo that strikes the right chord
