Does a persons dress affect your impression of them?

Question:
I suppose I am wondering this especially with regards to politicians, entertainers etc.
It sounds incredibly shallow I suppose, but I know I judge people in the public eye based slightly upon their dress. I was just curious if anyone else did also.
Answer:
Yes of course, first impression. However all my friends dress crap but they're still my friends. I find myself analyzing and critiquing everyone as I pass by them anywhere I'm at. Funny thing is you can immediately recognize sublte style like this guy I saw today, very apparent he cared but he didn't look calculated. Too bad more people aren't like that.
Answer:
yea same here
I have a lot of friends who dress like crap but i look at how everyones dressed these days. And esp at girls, because I like girls who dress really well way more then girls who dont
Answer:
To a degree. How would I ever get to know anyone if I based all of my impressions on the first.
Answer:
I wish it didn't, but it does.
It's unfortunate, because external appearance has nothing to do with someone's true self. I mean some of the people I respect most in this world are horrible dressers.
Answer:
i also find myself checking out girls asses a lot
but Idk if its to see if my guess of what jeans they were wearing is right or not or just to check em out
Answer:
I disagree... I think your attitude to your outward appearance obviously comes from your "true self". That said just becuase people dress like slobs doesn't mean that they aren't worth talking to :p
Answer:
Yes.
Answer:
Yes, but more 'average' people than politicians/entertainers. I won't sigh and roll my eyes for the wrong kind of lapel, but people wearing tacky clothes/guys wearing jean shorts/people wearing ill-fitting shit/people carrying or wearing fake things makes me automatically judge them, yes.
Answer:
At my Uni here in the UK, the grungiest dressers (Cobain), seem to be the most intelligent & get the best hotties...
Answer:
If someone I meet is not "stylish" then I know style won't be a conversation topic with them ... but I won't think of them any less.
Answer:
True, but I prefer girls who undress well even more.
Answer:
...
Answer:
Anyway who claims it doesn't is not in touch with their subconscious.
Just because grunge is heavily sprezzatura doesn't mean it isn't calculated and stylish. It's certainly a much stronger identity statement than bootcut American Eagles...
Answer:
I hang out with gamers, comic book geeks, tattoo people, and musicians. If I put much weight on the "style" thing, I'd claw my own eyes out.
