Question:
hi. i am curious -- EXACTLY what is redline?? i suspect it doesn't have anything to do with the color "red". and i see it all over ebay in auctions for denim.
i saw it described in the denim definitions, but i would like to see it pointed to in an image of different types of jeans, if possible. also what is "hidden rivets"?? and what is "indigo" denim??
i think i have a few pair of awesome old denim with some of these features, but i am unsure.
i would appreciate any help. images of these things can be sent to
owrangowtang@yahoo.com. please don't email me there for any other reason. and make sure to put REDLINE in the subject line or i won't open the mail.
thanks
nina

Answer:
hi. thanks for the image. it's helpful. however, why do ebay sellers always say "redline" when in fact, they don't show any images with the red thread. never have i seen the red thread such as this. i am slightly confused. thanks.
Answer:
i already used the search function. that is why i asked this question. someone already replied and he sent me an image of a redlined hem. that is what i was looking for, and the "search" function is something i am well aware of.
Answer:
It's a line you don't cross when driving stick.
Answer:
"Redline" is a term to describe the vintage selvedge from Cone Mills or a reproduction of that denim. Further info on selvedge can be found in the following two links:

Hidden rivets are rivets that have been covered by fabric that is normally found on the backpockets.

Um...indigo is dye used to make a pair of jeans blue. Chances are your jeans are dyed with indigo.
People new to denim who post basic questions like this on the forum are quite an annoyance for the regulars on this forum. Using the search function I was able to find this
As for the hidden rivets and "indigo" denim, I think that'd normally be pretty self-explanatory so long as you looked up "rivets" and "indigo" in answers.com or something.
...I need a life.

the reason you aren't seeing the red lines on the selvage of vintage denim auctions is that the color may have been washed out
and to preempt your next question "BIG E" refers to a LEVIS tab that has a capital E instead of lowercase as you will find on post 1980s levis.
