Raw Leather Belts

Question:
I am going to cross-post from the B&S forum.
How does this raw leather belt differ in quality for the Tanner belts on SuFu, the similar belt previously offered on the SF for $40, the cheapies for $15 at local leather store, or the Red Moon belts at substantially more? I ask because I'm interested in raw leather belt, but aren't sure how each differs. Can someone educate me?
Answer:
There is nothing particularly special about the strap I'm offering, and from the pics of the Tanner belts it looks like a comparable product. I can't really speak to the Red Moon belts as I have never seen them in person, but they do look like a nicer product from pics. That being said, with untanned belt straps I'm guessing that you aren't going to see huge differences in the leather - most of what makes good bridle leather is in the tanning process, and natural straps are relatively untreated.
