Question:
Here's the deal, I'm 22 years old and will be graduating college this fall, and I feel that my wardrobe needs a change for the more mature. I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the Men's Clothing forum, but this should be fine I'm sure.
Growing up I at first didn't care about style/fashion and just wore what ever seemed to look/feel good...come high school I was very involved in the local diy hardcore scene (music) and somehow through that I got into fashion. Most of my friends who I met through that whole scene have actually ended up with graphic design jobs for major clothing companies (gap, ruehl, etc).
Anyhow, most of my clothes that I wear consist of denim (right now I'm wearing Nudie Thinn Finn's-also have Slim Jims, assorted Ernest Sewn, Antik, etc. Just getting into wearing raw denim recently), silk screened hardcore shirts from years ago (although I hardly listen to hardcore anymore)-random polo's (lacoste, burberry), spiewak jackets, etc, and random tennis shoes (rare 90's, nike sb, marc jacobs vans, etc).
I want to start to make the transition into a more mature style and wear less t-shirt/denim with cool tennis shoes and more button down shirts/denim/nicer shoes when dressing casual. My favorite dress shirts that I have currently are from United Colors and French Connection. Sorry this is long winded, but I'll get to the point-I'm looking for suggestions as far as keeping a sense of my personal style that I have developed (albeit poorly at times...shame on me) while basically dressing in a more casual, mature fashion.
Any help/suggestions is much appreciated-this board is a great resource and I figured you guys would help point me in the right direction as far as dressy shirts I can wear with denim, different types of shoes to wear as alternatives, maybe accessories, so on.
Thanks in advance, and if this should be in another forum section I apologize.
Answer:
Maybe "Men's Clothing" would be better than SW&D threads but there are still plenty of damn hip "dressy" outfits in our WAYWT thread too (props to Sauce's TaT stylee yesterday)
Check out guys like Drizz, GetSmart, Sauce - perfect examples of dressing damn sharp and keeping it hip!! For alot of outfits I see here you can imagine them with non-denim pants and they still look great!
Answer:
awesome-thank you. can a mod move this over to the other part of the forum for me when they get a chance?
Answer:
I think SW&D is still more the right forum for this, but I would suggest what we always suggest first - read through the what are you wearing threads in both forums, and check out the other what are [people] wearing photoblogs around the web, and get an idea of what you like and what you think would work on you. Then you can ask more specific questions. Until we know what kind of things you like, we can't help much.
Answer:
What are your post-college plans, Bill? If you're going to be working, which industry (do you think you) will be going into?

I'd start with the shoes. A nice pair of leather soled loafers looks great with jeans and a Polo, after that add a shirt instead of the Polo, after that a pair of cotton pants instead of the jeans. Coats/jackets are a good way to change the overall look very quickly, add a scarf too.
It really isn't much of a leap to make if you do it step by step.

I agree with this.
what goes for inspiration, you can find it in a lot of places. doesn't necessarily have to be exact clothing items, but rather styles, color schemes, silhouettes etc. check magazines, forums, waywt threads, fashion blogs, people on the street..
its kind of hard to give any more advice without knowing what kind of a style you're looking for, so you kind of have to develop that on your own.
