Question:
I need a light jacket or coat for the spring. I already have a barracuda type thing that goes down to my waist, but it's not very warm.
Would this be a good purchase:
http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product...atId=cat170060 or can someone suggest some other sort of casual (not a hoodie or too casual) jacket?
Answer:
Does not look too bad to me but I think it is too much if the quality of J. Crew garments is what I have experienced in the past. You could conceivably find on STP or even eBay a better made lightweight wool/silk blend jacket (or even cotton) for much less. How warm does it get in your area in spring?
Answer:
I personally find it a little bit difficult to wear a sports jacket as a casual jacket, but what you linked looks pretty nice. It has a kind of Americana to it, but seems to have a nice, trim fit. It's more grown up than a 'Cuda jacket.
If you want something in a similar vein but with a more utilitarian feel, check out Engineered Garments.
Answer:
You may have to size down to get it like that though  - it is J.Crew after all.
Oh and look at discount shops/thrift stores. I had something similar that was very light weight made by Armani, got it for well under $100 and it was certainly slim fitting and rather casual looking...
Answer:
It gets in the 50s as a low and 70s as a high. What else would work? As I said I have a barracuda from RL, but I think thats too light. I wanted this 'desert battle jacket' from them as well but they ran out of smalls.
Would this

or

work better for what I need? They aren't that nice looking though.

I moved these posts out to their own thread as it was a longer discussion spanning multiple pages of the Ask a Question thread.
Personally I don't like either of the STP jackets you linked. What is your budget, and are there any other examples you can find that you like? Also did you look at the other spring jacket thread?
Answer:
My budget is $300. The other one that I liked was this polo one

Answer:
The first jacket in grey can be a good match with just about any type of shirt: t shirt, polo shirt, button shirt, and any kind of pants: slacks or jeans. Also, the grey color is neutral and will work withh any skin tone.
The second longer jacket I imagine would be warmer since it's longer. Also, the two colors: navy and tan, work a bit better with certain skin tones, eye color, and hair color. Personally, I like the tan color better than the navy. But it depends on you and what colors work best for you.
Personally, I like the grey blazer. It's dressier, the color is neutral, and you can pair it with just about anything. Plus, it's a conservative look which I doubt will ever go out of style.

Edit: I often see blazers that look quite similar to the J Crew one at vintage stores and/or at a goodwill for very low prices, anywhere from $4 to $20. I would start there as blazers in neutral colors (grey, navy) are ubiquitous at such stores.
Answer:
I really like the first jacket. I'm imagining the jacket with a light blue dress shirt and dark denim. Then with some brown dress shoes. It would look good for the club also.
Answer:
I dig the tan version of this jacket. Wish I knew of a similar one for you. The only thing that comes to mind is Belstaff, but that's just because it has pockets and I'm obsessed with Belstaff.
Anyone?
Answer:
Some of the Belstaff jackets look awesome. How would I be able to snag one in the US? It looks like the closest store is London.
Answer:
Well, oipolloi.com sells them online. Otherwise, they have wide distribution. You can find them at Saks, Barneys, and tons of specialty stores. Just don't get the "Hero" jacket. Although pretty cool, unfortunately, Tom Cruise has sort of ruined it...
