I have a pair of black jeans as well, but black ages much less gracefully than blue. My black jeans have become sort of grey and blah over time. If I had to do it over again, i would not buy black jeans.

Though I prefer blue by a large margin, I have a pair of DGs that is made in dark blue denim with black coating that looks super cool. They're more steel grey than solid black though. Dior has some really cool ones too, but of course way overpriced.

Most black jeans have traditionally been overdyed, meaning both the warp and weft fibers are black. That is why for most black jeans, the outside and inside appearance of the fabric is identical. For blue jeans, only the warp is dyed, while the weft is left either natural (ecru) or bleached white. The contrast between the two colors accounts for a lot of the characteristically attractive aging of blue denim. Most black denim lacks this potential and will instead age into a lower contrast, washed out appearance. That said, a few producers make black jeans in which only the warp is dyed. I own a pair myself, from Varvatos, but unfortunately they will not age like blue denim either, because the dye itself seems incredibly resistant to bleeding or fading.

I have the nudie dry black slimjim which only has the warp dyed black. It's a great color and made me re-think black jeans, but only if the warp is dyed.

i have a pair of levis premium that are blue, but with a black dye applied on the outside of the jeans. its great. the blue starts coming thru, then the larger warp threads are starting to turn white from wear. ill post pics as soon as the start looking really good.

Black dye is much more stable and colorfast than blue, hence it is more difficult to get out of the fabric (ie, fade) Black jeans will never fade the same way as blues. They're pretty much a completely different monster.
