Question:
I was in Bloomingdales the other day but I forgot my gift certificate so I didn't bother trying anything on with so many other stops to make.
I want to get some jeans and I stopped by Azalea but the APC, Nudies, etc all had a bit too casual of a fit than I'd normally like. I couldn't get past the low pockets.
I saw some cuts that I think might look good on me from Citizens of Humanity and John Varvatos but I don't know if these brands are any good. Should I even bother trying them on?
Answer:
You can do much better than C of H but I couldn't tell you about JV. If I had to guess, I'd think you could do better than those as well.
As for higher pocketed jeans.. someone around here more knowledgeable than I am will be able to help you out.
Answer:
I don't see how CoH or JV jeans are more casual than APC, which are minimialist and have no branding of any type. I don't recall the pockets on any of my APCs being lower than any of my other brands of jeans, while Nudies admittedly certainly have lower pocket positioning.
Answer:
CoH and JV hopefully are not as casual as APC. The ones I tried on at least, had some very low pockets. I could fold them in half with my ass crease. The jeans I'm used to have the majority of the pocket over the cheek itself.
Where do you get your uniqlos from?
Answer:
The only jeans that Bloomingdales sells that I personally think are really worth the money are Earnest Sewn. They have all the mainstream stuff, like RR, TR, Diesel, 7s, etc, but I'm not a big fan. The ES are pretty nice still.
Answer:
I'll definitely try on the ES, as well.
Answer:
I'm wearing Rogan Original Jeans in the Sniper finish right now:
They're cut like a regular straight-leg trouser. They're dark in finish and well made. I recomend them for business wear.
Also - Check out the Flat Head 5100. It's a stright-leg trouser cut as well.
Answer:
Do they sell these at Bloomies? i really want to avoid getting a pair with distressing. This go-round I'd like more of a trouser-like appearance.
Answer:
They might have Rogan at bloomies... I'm not sure. Barney's will carry them when they open.
Saks might have them, but our Saks leaves something to be desired.
I tihnk that Neiman Marcus in Palo Alto has them.
The Flat Head 5100 can be found at Self Edge on Valencia.
Answer:
Varvatos jeans are not good. They stretch out an inordinate amount, so much so that they will fall off of your body (it's happened to me on several occasions).
Answer:
I'll check out Self Edge, I actually meant to go there last weekend but it took over an hour just to cross the stupid bay bridge. The reason I ask for bloomies is because I have $100 gift cards courtesy of amex. But there is tons more to be had than jeans. The GAP ones I have been wearing were so tight at first that I couldn't bed my knees, now they are quite loose and I have to dry them all the way just to get them to stay on without a belt ;).
Answer:
I think you might really like these:

Not quite as trouser-like as Rogan, but the distressing is very minimal, the color is awesome, and I think that the fit will be pretty close to what you are looking for. Personally, I like a slimmer, straighter leg, but if you want a bit looser fit, and something that looks sort of like a pair of pants, this might be a good bet.
Answer:
I like a slimmer fit as well, though not sure about tight, maybe even a boot cut. My only other pair of jeans is a 70s boot cut vintage calvin klein that fits pretty tight (actually finally fits me again after a week on the treadmill) that my dad used to wear when I was a kid every day.
Those pants are nice, the color is just what I'm looking for, I know bloomies sells ES, so I'll give them and NM a shot next time I'm in SF.
Answer:
I've seen that pair at Bloomies too.
Answer:
a bit short on that model
