yes, successfully, on predistressed jeans. i shortened them with the orginal hem and they look just fine and as good as any tailor job.
i tried to hem my APC's but the denim was too thick and stiff for my machine to handle. i ended up breaking 3 needles! so off to the tailor they went. they came out fine and after the wash the roping affect was still there like it always should be

The wear is more a function of the length than of your sewing chops. If you weren't walking on them, they wouldn't get messed up.
