Question:
Hey guys! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I'm planning on applying to Gap Kids and they said they interview you on the spot when you hand in your resume/application. So...does anyone have any interview tips for a retail job? btw, I've never worked in retail before (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sweatingbullets.gif)
Thanks!
(Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place..)
Answer:
i dont think this topic is in the wrong place. hahah. BUT anyways, ummm i dont know what working in retail means. but im guessing your job is sort of like Disneyland. hah. becuz they interview you RIGHT AT THE PLACE. and its like a 90% chance that you will get hired. IM SORRY IM GETTING OFF TOPIC. hahaha. Well i have a job and i'll tell you what I said. I didn't really talked about my family in the interview. i just talked about gaining some skills for FUTURE PURPOSES AND HELPING OUT THE ENVIRONMENT. HAHAHAha. I KNOW I KNOW. IT SOUNDS LIKE A TOTAL KISSUP. but i got the job. I dont know how Gaps do it though. :/
Answer:
Well, I work at Gap Outlet so I'll just tell you the questions I was asked on my interview.
1) Why do you want to work here?
2) Describe yourself in three words.
3) What question do you want to ask me?
Mine was fast and it was a group interview so that's how it went. It varies, however, with which managers hire you and what not. However, I would say dress nice and be well groomed. First impressions make a huge difference even if you're not going to an official interview. Don't make up answers that you think sound good unless you can back it up. My friend had an interview at Banana Republic and when he was asked why he wanted to work there he said he liked the clothes. However, the manager asked if he really did liked the clothes because he was dressed otherwise (in clothes from Ecko and what not). So yea, if you don't really like the clothes, don't say it just to sound good. I said I wanted to work in a friendly environment where I can interact with people through first hand experience. I also said that I was trying to save up for college and since I was going to college soon, I wanted to have a taste of the real world and I felt that Gap was a suitable environment that will help me take my first step. Something like that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif)
Don't be nervous though! Gap is a really fun place to work at and everyone's just easy going and fun.
Oh, and if they ask you what will you do when you see someone stealing just say I'll approach them and just tell them about a sales going on or something. NEVER accuse them of stealing even if its quite obvious they did. But I highly doubt they'll ask you that haha

Answer:
try to think of possible situations you might have to deal with and think of how you would solve those problems because when I went for a retail job interview, they asked us how we would deal with it. example..say you were trying to sell a shirt to a customer, and he or she said but I can find the same thing in X store for a cheaper price. you would then have to think about how you can possibly convince the customer why buying it at your store would be a better decision.

haha i remember having to watch a video and take a group quiz for that on my training day. Another thing to add is that you can say to the person whom you suspect..let's say they took a pair of sunglasses. excuse me, would you like for me to put the sunglasses on the counter for you?
