HAPAS/Mixed People in Asia

Question:
My friend told me that especially in Vietnam, Vietnamese people do not have respect for hapas; there is a term for hapas that literally means less than dirt.
He says that this is also the case for countries such as Japan, China, and Korea. I argued that there are famous celebrities who are hapa/mixed (i.e. Daniel Henney in Korea!) and they're adored, but my friend says that the general census is still a negative feedback for mixed people.
Is this true? If so, that's so sad! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Answer:
I'm half and it's true.
Answer:
It depends where you go and what type of mix you are
In Japan people love half white / half asian, they assume that all half white / asians are beautiful and popular
Can't say the same with half black / half asian though, sadly

Answer:

I'm half and it's true.
Where do you live and how are you treated differently?
Answer:
^In the US. I get this a lot from the older generation.

Do they call you a certain name?
Answer:
^
Not quite but I get side comments. My favorite has to be If only you were 100%.
Answer:
Oh my turn my turn!
Which side do you relate with more and why?
Answer:
^Definitely more on the western side.
Answer:
^
I'm hapa too, but I relate more to the Chinese side since I grew up with both my parents speaking Chinese to me. My dad is Caucasian (like the token white boy from Japan) but he's fluent in Mandarin Chinese. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Tamago, do you want a half-Japanese baby like Rivers Cuomo? (haha, I'm not sure if you get the reference)

Ohh your daddy is my hero
Do I want a half-japanese baby? lol.. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) If I had one though I'd doubt I'd speak in Japanese to him/her like your dad did to you with Chinese, for the same reason I wouldn't want a Japanese woman teaching my kid English...Though sometimes there's no choice..Does your mom speak English? Or were they forced to use Mandarin as means of communication?
And yes I get the reference..unfortunately

Yeah my mom speaks English. My dad is actually better at Chinese than her, but that's because he underwent an intensive Chinese program during which he only spoke/read/ate/breathed/talked/smoked Chinese. (Whatever that means).
Answer:
Which program was that? Do you know?
Answer:
My friend's father was born and raised in Japan even thoguh he is full Korean. He told me that racism in Japan was pretty bad there and that they even had to hide their kimchi (lol) and that he had to pretend he was japanese. But of course this is like 30 years ago and I'm sure Japan has changed a lot.
But, more recently, I was also told that Amuro Namie faced a lot of racism for being a quarter german and Ive also read a lot articles concerning racism in Japan and Korea recently.
