Re-gifting

Question:
Now that the gift-giving season just ended, I thought it would be an appropriate topic.
I hope I don't need to explain what re-gifting is, but I guess I shall anyway. Re-gifting is taking a gift that was already given (to you presumably) and then you subsequently give it to someone else, passing it off as a brand new gift. Obviously there are classy ways to do this and not so smart ways to do this.
Anyone do this sometimes? Anyone have some embarrassing, funny, or interesting stories to share? Anyone got caught red-handed? Have you caught anyone red-handed?
=======
I do this sometimes, if there is something I just haven't opened for over a year and is pretty generic like nice lotions, soaps, candles, etc. and am expected to give gifts to people I don't know too well. I figure, I don't know them well enough to get them a personalized gift and I don't use it anyway, might as well give it a second life. I haven't been caught in the act, so no stories from me.
Answer:
that's what my parents do. so embarrassing.
i've done it once or twice, but they were small gifts that i didn't think i would use.
no, i've never been caught. (:
Answer:
I think chinese people do this the most. Very often, I receive many useless gifts which waste space so I save them and give it to others. Or when I receive food which I dislike and the expiry date is still a long time away, then I will also give those food to relatives or other acquaintances.
Answer:
for xmas, we received gifts from both neigbours on either side. so my mum got the gifts, and swapped them and gave it to the neighbours. so neighbour on left got what was from neighbour on right and vice versa.
it'd be funny if the two neighoubrs had given pressies to each other, and re-gave it to my mum. then my mum swapped them and regave it to the neigbours. each would have gotten what they had given!!!! 'u get what u give' LOL

Answer:
i've never done it myself because i don't know.. i'm a junk collector anyway haha. even if i won't use it, i keep it.
but i know some people that have done it quite a few times. and i've seen someone give away one of the gifts that i gave them -___-
Answer:
..,guilty. but i was very little then. i did it once, since i forgot to buy one and gave this friend a certain toy that i dont really use. hahaha.

i did some re-gifting once or twice.
Answer:
I do too, because for some reason I never have any money when Christmas comes around (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) but never been caught yet!
My friend is worse- she puts all the stuff in a box under her bed and re-wraps them when she needs to give a present!
Answer:
My parents done it this Christmas, but only with chocolates, since we've received way too many this year to even eat them all. Lolz.
Answer:
I've done it once like.. so many years ago.
Answer:
funny story, back in 1988, my mom bought this set of coffee mugs and gave it to one of her friends, and apparently it changed hands more than 20 times, all by regifting. sad considering the set of coffee mugs visited 4 continents, and 6 countries. fast forward to xmas 2004, my mom opened presents, and the set of coffee mugs was regifted back to us. including a card my mom put inside the box.
Answer:
Personally, I joke around with my friends about re-gifting, but I don't actually do it. Sure, I have stuff sitting in my closet that's like brand new since I never used them, but I still keep them all since they gave it to me. I'm a pack rat, simply put.
SecondPage49, wow, that's crazy. They could've at least opened it and re-wrapped.
Answer:
^ Wow, that is a pretty extreme case, haha.
I re-gift ocassionally - as long as you do it discreetly and wisely, it's perfectly fine. Like making sure you don't let the person who gave you the gift know you're re-gifting... For example, sometimes my family will get lots of nice chocolate boxes over Christmas, and we don't eat a lot of chocolate at home, so we might as well re-gift. I do that when I get a million lotion/bath sets that I'm not going to be able to use.. it's a waste otherwise..
Answer:

I've done it once or twice before, long time ago so I don't remember what I re-gifted.
never been caught though , thank god. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sweatingbullets.gif)

I remember seeing this on MSN today a few weeks back hahahah.
I don't regift for my friends though.
Answer:
i do it evry so often. the ppl i regift to usually dont know each other so the only thing i hafta worry abt is if someone asked me what i did with the gift (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sweatingbullets.gif)
Answer:
I re-gifted something I gave myself. It was a pillow which I havent opened and used. I was too lazy to go out and buy something for exchange gift. does that include? I was the one who bought it anyways!
I've never regifted something someone gave me. I'm very much on the sentimentality; so even if I didnt like the gift, I just keep it in the closet.
Answer:
Ooh, I`ve never done that...and I don`t *think* it has happened to me. But I really need to because I`m so broke. T_T
Answer:
Yes, I must say I've done it once or twice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) I just gave away the stuff I didn't like when I didn't want to spend any more money.
