Question:
Hi all. Have you guys seen ANY TV, newspaper/magazine, or radio ads that talk about the Darfur conflict? I don't think I have seen any...I know there are websites that talk about the genocide where you can buy wristbands and shirts and donate, but I'm not sure if this exactly advertising.
...Actually now that I think about it, maybe it does fall under the advertising category. Hmm...
Anyway, like the topic title says, are there any ads that try to increase the Darfur conflict awareness?
Thanks.
Answer:
i haven't seen any. i've only seen the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY and BREAST CANCER AWARENESS ones.

Answer:
Genocide brought to you by European Colonialism™.

mideoyo.: Ah, yeah. That's the site I came across. I wonder how many people actually visit it though?
grnteaaholic: Thanks! I'll check it out.
chriquen: You did? Interesting. Thank you soo much for telling me. What TV station was it on? Around what time if you remember?
Velocitii: Yeah, that it is incredibly lame. I figured if they did air a TV ad, it'd be on late at night/early morning..because soo many people watch TV during those times.
I really appreciate all the posts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thank you so much.

I have a question...personally I've never heard of Darfur or anything until like a few months ago.
What caused this event to be so well known now, even though its been going on for a long time? Is it because of celebrity hype or something?

It's not REALLY well-known. There are still some people who don't really know about it. How WOULD they know about this? It's not like they talk about Darfur on TV everyday. It's not like they report this kind of stuff in the newspaper. And obviously by the lack of response I'm getting, there really aren't that many advertisements that are being aired to increase awareness.
But for those who DO know about it...then yeah, it might be because of the stuff celebrities do...George Clooney's been pretty involved and everything. And I think Oprah talked about this too once.
Answer:
i think ALOT of people dont know about it.....my friends didnt know about it until i told them.....and i found out a few months ago from..........a facebook group....so it can definitely use some more media attention
ok well i wouldnt say alot, but from the people i know.....only i know so.....yea

Are those Dunks in your avatar?
Answer:
Velocitii: Hmm...media attention. What kind of media attention specifically? Advertisements? News reports?
Answer:
I can't say I've seen any because there really isn't media coverage on it. Whatever has been uncovered is because of the fact that celebrities and sites such as myspace are putting up limited coverage of the event. Perhaps the government just doesn't want to get totally into it, and they don't deem that the mass audience have to know about it. It's like the Cuban 5 - it's definitely an issue, yet not a lot people know about it.
Answer:
they could put it in the newspaper for one, i read the newspaper daily, well i read 3 because im just that bored, and i havent seen an article yet....or maybe they put it so small where i would ignore it, your local news reports would be good too, even if its just a minute, alot of people like to get their info from the tv rather than read
they could do what those other ads do, the ones that tell you to pay 10 cents a day or something to support a child, but instead....dont ask for money, and just tell people whats going on, but im guessing that would cost alot of money, the superbowl would be perfect but someone would have to donate a bunch of money to do that (im not a sports guy so i dont know if the superbowl passed already)
Answer:
Yeah, I have, actually. Once on TV, which I never watch, and once in a magazine.

Air Force 1s !!
Answer:
Unfortunately enough, no.. =(
We're very aware of it at school though. We even had a program where we wrote a fatty letter to some of the big government people asking them to do stuff. So many people participated; I was really happy, but still, it's not enough.
EVERYBODY WATCH HOTEL RWANDA (fantastic movie) TO GET THE SLIGHTEST IDEA OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN DARFUR RIGHT NOW!!
Answer:
yeah..
i've seen one several times..
they've got people of different races and ages (Unity ^^) reading a letter about it..
its really touching in my opinion.. but i forget the web address...
Answer:
I saw one commercial that they kept showing like in December I think. They kept saying never again, and showing pictures of different events that happened. Like after the holocaust we said never again etc and they started to talk about Darfur.
Answer:
I'm ashamed to say that I know nothing about Darfur. I have not seen any ads/minimal news about Darfur.
EDIT:Went to the site and in fact i Have seen a documentary about this. But I didn't remember the nameof the country. But the documentary was about refugees running away from the Janjaweed.
