Question:
Hey does ne1 here wanna help me? From this quote, wat argument do u get from it
Ever and anon, too, there came a glare of red light out of his eyes, as if the old man's soul were on fire: and kept on smouldering duskily within his breast, until, by casual puff of passion, it was blown into a momentary flame (153).
i get the theme Pride, but i also think it could be Sin and Guilt. with that topic, i have to create an argument using the topic and somehow connect the literary element of the quote with a topic for the commentary. ne help?
Answer:
With a quote like that, it's not easy for me to notice it's pride without reading the book, but I've read the book, so yeah, pride is a theme too.
I havent read the Scarlet Letter in a long time, nor have the book with me. the book's themes of sin and guilt and pride are interconnected. The reverend guy (forgot his name), is guilty b/c of his sin, but does not want to reveal it b/c of pride and fear of rejection by the heavily pious Puritan society, ie: religious hypocricy. Think about the religious hypocricy that happens today.
