i think it sounds really gross when ABC's have a heavy american accent when speaking canto. i give them props for at least attempting it, but sometimes, when other foreigner's try to speak it, it's really horrible to the ears.

when some of my non-vietnamese classmates try to speak viet to me, i just think its so funny. their accent is so off and it seems like they are saying something bad but their really not. but then again, my viet friends whose first language is english, they sometime tease me about my tiny 'fob' accent too. like, i cant say the letter R, when i say some word w/ the letter R in it, it comes out sounding wierd.

Lol, my accent isn't great (Chinese is my secong language), but I'm fairly accompished. When I hear a guy trying to speak in Chinese, but he has a terrible accent, it kills me.

Some accents are horribly painful to listen to, especially if it's not understandable at all when speaking a particular language.
Others, however, are terribly cute!! Can't think of any with a snap, but I know what I'm talking about. ^o^

i find it painful!!! as mean as it sounds, the wrong tones really annoy me.
cuz for me, i wont bother speaking another language unless i got the tones right.
