in my group of friends we use the term fob as a an insult and we sometimes make fun and call each other that but we don't really mean it. the typical fob in my area knows barely any english, dresses in bright clothing and has even bright hair, is always squawking down the hall in chinese, think they are the shizzle because they can swear at american teachers in chinese just because the teachers don't know what they're saying, and well they're just obnoxious.

and to tetra yes, we all know that immigrants no longer come by boat. but fob is a known term and it's not going to randomly change to fop just because of a change in transportation method. it's just like how when we say someone is getting fired. when someone gets fired they are not literally being set on fire. but we still all know the context behind the term (fired=you're no longer working here). way back in the day of pirates the term fired used to mean shoving someone in a cannon and blasting them off the ship. somehow that term become synonymous with getting sacked which also comes from the good ol' pirate days. but i don't think you really care about reading about pirate lingo.
