How is highschool in United States like?

Question:
Hi, I don't know if i have posted at the right section, sorry if i did not. I am from Singapore, 16 this yr. I am planning to go to USA to further my studies after my O level ( a major national examination in Singapore ). But i am not sure should i really do that. hm... so for those who are studying in USA, how is the highschool in USA like? Will there be racial discrimination? And after u have ended ur highschool, u have to base on your results in school to go to a uni or will there be a national exam thingy gg on?
Answer:
It depends really.
There will be racism at ghetto mini cooper high schools. They are a lot of racial clashes there, considering the amount of groups there are. Others, are more civilized and less clique.
Answer:
But now; it kinda cooled off right?
Or maybe i'm just focusing on high schools in California?
Or just mines..
Don't worry to much; go with the flow.
I think you will do just fine.
Answer:
hrmm
well with the racial discrimination... it depends where you move too
but for the most part, it wont be bad
and their is no national examination (unless you count SAT)
but im pretty sure that will be easy for you
seeing how asian schools are tougher than US ones
Answer:
In all honesty, it's pretty boring and humdrum.
I think the most prominent is discrimination. Racism, homophobia, judging between the cliques...Yeah. I think that's about it. But where I live, the racism is usually the white people vs. all other races. It makes me disappointed to be caucasian. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)
Answer:
In my school it's really diverse. Everyone hangs out with one another. I guess I would say when someone meets you for the first time, they would judge how you dress. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
Answer:
depends on the location. some high schools are diverse, religious, etc etc...
Answer:
racial discrimination can be anywhere. as for the question about schools, as above posters have stated it depends on the location. if you are going to go to a public school it may differ from what you would learn in a private school. if you are going to move here, and are buying a house through a realtor (a person who helps people buy and sell homes) you can always ask about the schools, and what school you would be going to depending on the location of your home.
Answer:
for racial discrimination it just depends on what kind of high school you go too and in wat place/neigborhood its in.
high school is very diverse.... but it is boring over here... blahhh.
Answer:
try going to a school that is more multicultural and many of these are located near the major cities. try sticking with the west coast area or the east coast area cause thats where a lot of the multicultural environment is.
usually, in the southern US or the midwest, its not as diverse and people are very conservative but that's a stereotype but whatever.
just try going to a place where there is a mix of ethnicities.
Answer:
It really depends on the location you're going to. With mine, it was very diverse, yet for the most part each race kind of cliqued with their own...

Answer:
Best 4 yours so far in my life.
Never thought I'd say it but I'm miss going to high school.
06!
Ok so high school is from like when your 14 to 18 here in the US.
Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
All that racism thing...it depends what people go to your school and where it is.
Naturally if you're in a big metropolitan city, there's less chance of running into racism and more chance of meeting people like you than if you go all the way to a high school in like...Alabama where you're the only Asian there.
After 4 years of high school ... well in the 3rd year you take SATs or ACTs which are like...college tests to see how good you are in writing, reading, and math. Then if you go to a school like...New York City like I do. You gotta take a regents test every year to show that u know what u learned that year.
Answer:
It’s pretty much like in the movies and shows except not as exaggerated.
There are some schools where one race dominates pretty much and some high schools don’t offer you the courses you want to take (like mine) and you could take it at a community college.
Answer:
to me, it really doesnt matter if there are lots of asians there or not. i find that asians just tend to stick with their own ethnicity anyway. like korean with korean, chinese with chinese, etc.
so if you're singaporean, i guess there arent that many singaporeans around in the US anyway so it wouldnt matter if you were around lots of asians. well maybe you'd fit in with chinese people? cause most singaporeans are chinese, right? do singaporeans still speak mandarin?
I guess the most important thing is just to pick a school you like that offers a good program and has good reputation. dont worry too much about the multicultural thing. after all, you came to the US to experience something new. but like i said earlier, try going for well known places and not somewhere like alabama or wyoming or places like that where its not very developed.
Answer:
Don't worry about it, it's just a day to day study and hang out kind of deal.
Answer:
people are all weird. some will be rude some will be super nice and some will be two faced some will talk crap behind yur back and stuff =__= so yea it reallie depends. don't get mixed in with the wrong people.
Answer:
i find that most white people in the US are open-minded and nice to asians though. i mean, as long as you speak good english, it should all be fine.
Answer:
I would definitely reccomend going to private school! Public schools are usually not that great.
Sometimes there are racist jerks, but most people are cool. People are particular to the way you dress and look in US highschools...it's kinda annoying.
Colleges usually place a high importance on the SATs, a big test that stresses Math and English, and it's really really important to get a good score. There are also CATs, which are more popular on the West Coast, they very similar to the SATs, but I think they're more Math based.
Also, Colleges like to see volunteer work, even if it's not mandated by your highschool to do community service you should try to put some hours in.
-Edit- Try to take AP (advanced placement) courses in your stronger subjects- some colleges accept it as College Credits and it looks really good!
Oh yeah, depending where you go there will be lots of access to drinking and pot and stuff- but mostly bad kids or kids that don't care if they flunk out drink exccessively and do pot.
