Question:
My mom just told me about how a lady at her church, a South Korean woman who just came to America, was going on a trip to Washington DC. She had gone to school in washington so her friends had pooled money to pay for her flight out there to meet them. She had her Korean passport and when she tried to get on her plane, security stopped her and drilled her about what she was doing here and why she was going to Washington, because her passport says Republic of Korea. The idiot, unintelligent security guard thought she was from North Korea and actually forced her to miss her flight while her luggage left on the plane without her. She was crying and completely upset, and she did nothing wrong. Now, the airport is just offering her credit for her flight and won't deliver her luggage back to her even though it was their fault.
How is this fair?? Korea is on the news every night. People should know that Republic of Korea is South Korea. (north korea is Democratic People's Republic of Korea and nobody in the US would have a north korean passport.) Being ignorant to this is NO excuse to treat someone like they are North Korean. it makes me SO angry that people can just do that, especially since south korea has been a strong US ally since the beginning. I think she should get a lawyer or the news involved. this is a big deal and I am furious. what do you guys think?

i think you have to see it a little from the security guard's pt. of view
everyday, he/she has to handle a lot of customers and he/she might also not be the smartest person in the world
if they made her miss the flight, i'm sure they would have put her on the next one free of charge
if it were me, i'd do everything to cooperate though cuz i know those guards have a tough job of handling tons of baggage each day
also, about the North Korean thing, everyone knows that geograpy isn't Americans' strongest area
after all, some think that Canada is actually a US state

Actually, it shouldn't of mattered if she was from north or south korea...she should have been treated better no matter where she was.
