Question:
my university computing package is being terminated this month, and i don't know where to move the pictures and webpages i've put on my university account over the years. i know there are things like photobucket and flickr and imagestation, but i don't know a lot about what they do, whether they cost money, and how much they allow you to store. i did try moving some of my photos to yahoo, but it seems like the pictures i put on there are being compromised, quality-wise... like they become grainy and unclear. that is really uncool.
i also like to create webpages from time to time, but i don't know any good web hosting services. can someone recommend me some good places to start? thanks!
Answer:
I use imageviper, but like most image hosting services..after a certain bandwidth has been used, the pictures wont show.
Answer:
I like photobucket. Have better control over the pictures.
Photobucket also has a nice upload tool for batch pictures. Imageshack has a similar tool and doesn't need registeration.
If you want to share files, theres that stickie at the top that covers everything so ill let you look and judge based on that.
Web hosts, I have a geocities, angelfire, and fortunecity account. Angelfire is nice because they have FTP access for free. Geocities is okay and I like putting big pictures on it so it gets overloaded and runs out of bandwith quickly. I mention fortunecity because they kept my webpage up after almost 2 years of basic inactivity and im quite suprised they don't just close my account for making a bad page no one wants to see.
Answer:
For free web host, try freewebs.com and atspace.com
I find them both very good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For image hosting sites, i personally use photobucket (1 GB storage space; 1MB (1024KB) file size limit, its pretty good but i dont tend to use it alot. I upload all my files to myspace or something like that.
There are many services you can try, try browsing around these two sites to get better opinions:

http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-image-hosting.php?sort=3
Just watch out for the maximum file size limits as you may have really huge files. MyFileHut is really good also as it allows 50mb file size limits, but downside is the 30day inactivity thingy.

oh yeah, i forgot many sites had that problem. is there a free service that doesn't have such a problem and doesn't mess around with pic quality or resolution or whatever? is flickr any good?

i remember those places... i always thought they were kinda old school but i guess since you're using them, they must be pretty current. i've been messing around with googlepages, and it's cool because it doesn't have any ads, but i don't seem to be able to control the index page very well. it's kinda weird.

imageviper doesn't change the image quality, you just have a certain amount of storage, thats about it. after a certain amount of bandwidth is used, the image viper logo shows up instead of the picture you uploaded.
Flickr is different in that its more of a photoalbum site.. i believe you may not be able to link your pics to other pages (assuming you want to).. and that people viewing your photoalbum cannot save the picture via right click.. so far pics I wanted had to be done via print screen.
Answer:
freewebs is pretty good no ads pretty flexible index page @ least to me it is
