depends on what kind of case you want
plastic or rubber kinds: you could melt some plastic/rubber and mold it =O
or just wait and buy one from the store
or you could sew a little pouch or knit/crochet one =P

Just sew a bag or something. If you're a guy, altoids tin. Although a nano is much smaller than an altoids tin... so if you're lucky you might find something small and nice to work with. My zen micro fits in an altoids tin so I got my dremel and cut a nice opening for my headphones and all that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) (just so you get an idea of what can be done refer to the mp3 stickie at the top, thats my altoids case)

Instead of making a case, it'd probably better to wait out the week you need to get a ride and just buy a case later and protect it by not using it heavily for the week, or ordering on-line... Sorry if this doesn't help =__=

Also, I've seen a diy ipod skin mod. Just a clear tape cut to it's dimensions wrapped around a nano. The catch? You're gonna have to keep doing it once you remove the tape since the adhesive will be REALLY hard to take off. Yeah, stay away from this one...

I thought one of the improvements on the 2g nano was that they didn't need as much protection as it's predecessor.
Like most guys here said, a sock or beanie should do the trick for the 2nd generation nanos. If you really want t make a altoid case and can't get a hold of foams, I would use a Styrofoam.
