Thanks to everyone in previous posts.. here's another challenging question for me. I've look throughout gsmarena and found it hard to find a decent phone that'll work within my area.. could you please help??
For instance, I've had a Motorola V3i and the Samsung e900 but at my dorm... the V3i has all 5 bars but the e900 does not.. the highest it'll ever go is 2 bars. But yeah, the screen on the V3i just suddenly stopped working although the phone still works.. (any idea??) Aside from this, basically I need a new phone that has good reception for me at college.
Thanks in advance!!!!

thats more of an environmental issue... find out what phones have good rf online from like phonescoop.com maybe or just ask around your dorms because the things ppl say online might be the complete opposite of how it is in your building. i mean verizon was supposed to have good service.. but nope.. no service in my dorm and nokia's normally have pretty decent rf.

After hearing your story, tieulongnhi. It seems you had trouble with the E900 because its a triband phone. I'm assuming that your with cingular and cingular mainly runs on 850mhz band. Your v3i is a world phone. World phones are phone that have quadband. It has 850mhz and also 190mhz. The E900 doesn't have 850mhz and in some certain areas, Cingular will run on 1900mhz because of the at&t. So next time just make sure your phone has 850mhz or a quadband phone.
Answer:
skywannabe is right. If you have Cingular then you should be using quad band phones because they are changing most of there towers to 850 mhz.
If you don't have Cingular, then the problem could be where you are located. Sometimes you won't get a reception in a certain part a building, like basements and etc.
Answer:
as long as its the right freq itll work. reception is more of a carrier/enivronment thing. i have a v3i; completely no signal at all at home, but great signal elsewhere.

How much are you willing to spend? Have you also consider upgrading with cingular, if your contract is up. They do have so nice phones.
w810i great music phone with great camera.
d807 great phone but housing is really horrible.
cu500 my friends seem to enjoy it.
v3i if your a razr fan.
a707 aka sync. Looks like a great phone. But I have heard the menu was abit laggish.
Umm thats all I can think about that cingular provides. Also are you into clamshells, candy bars, or sliders?

Are you going to renew your contract with Cingular and buy there phone or are you willing to buy unlocked phones(costs more)?

The design doesnt matter much to me.. except the weight -- nothing to heavy, more than 120g.. thanks for those phones, i'll take a look!

I always buy unlocked phones just in case I get to sign my own contract someday..
