Anybody know if there's any way I can record a soundclip that is playing on my computer without a mic? So say I'm playing a clip from a movie and I want to capture a clip from the audio, can I do it directly onto my computer thru a program or is the only way I can do this is through a mic? i want to avoid using a mic because my laptop speakers are crap and so is the mic i have at hand. if anybody has any input on this, i'd appreciate it. thank you!

Answer:
Every computer with an industry-standard sound card is able to record from a variety of sources: a microphone, stereo, CD player, line-in, etc. To record an audio clip playing on you computer, you will need to record from stereo. Here's how:
- Go to Start Control Panel Sounds and Audio Devices
- Click on the Audio tab
- Click on the Volume button in the Sound Recording group
- Go to Options Properties
- Check the box next to 'Stereo Mix' under 'Show the following volume controls:' and click OK.
- Check 'Select' next to Stereo Mix
- Drag the Stereo Mix volume control all the way up.
