Possible Human Remains Found In Northeast D.C.
Medical Examiner To Make Final Determination

WASHINGTON -- Investigators in the District are expected to return to a 7-Eleven in northeast Washington where what is believed to be a human skull was found. Police are waiting on a ruling by the D.C. medical examiner.
Police said the partially decomposed skull was discovered at about 6 p.m. Monday near a 7-Eleven at Hawaii Avenue and Taylor Street. News4's Megan McGrath reported that a body also was found in the area.
Witnesses said a homeless man, who sometimes panhandles at the 7-Eleven, showed up with the head in plastic bag and then threw it into a large trash bin.
The witnesses fished the head out of the trash bin, put it on some bushes and then contacted authorities.
And I took a closer look and it had a baseball cap on it. The baseball cap was still fitting very tightly and still had skin on it, but most of the skull had broken down, Robert Crawford told News4.
Police said they believe the skull was found in a wooded area off of Taylor Street near Catholic University's football field. A body was found there Tuesday morning, News4 reported.
Police said in addition to the remains they found some clothing and a rope. Authorities said they are looking into the possibility that the discovery could be linked to a case of suicide. Police said the remains were likely inthe woods for several months.
Authorities said they have begun checking missing persons reports to see if they can positively identify the victim.
