WESTMINSTER, Mar. 29, 2007 - (CNS) - An apartment manager checking on the welfare of a tenant Thursday found the bodies of a woman and a young girl whose deaths are being investigated as apparent homicides, a police officer said.
The victims, who appear to have been dead for several days, were found in a unit in the Tres Vidas apartment complex at 15130 Brookhurst St., said Westminster police Officer Van Woodson.
The manager called police to the large gated complex, which has about 200 units, at 12:38 p.m. Woodson said.
The woman appeared to be in her 30s, but Woodson could not say how old the girl was, other than to call her a small child.
Woodson also said he did not know the relationship between the woman and girl.
It does appear to be a homicide, the officer said. There is evidence on the bodies that makes it appear they were murdered.
Police were called to the apartment on March 6, and talked to some people then, but do not know if the woman was among them, Woodson said. The reason for the call was being withheld, he said.
There are no suspects and no known motive, and it is not known if the victims were robbed.
Police investigators planned to be at the apartment through the night processing evidence, and autopsies will likely be conducted in the morning, Woodson said.
The officer could not answer why the manager checked on the tenant.
I don't know if we're releasing `why' at this time, he said.
The names of the victims were withheld pending notification of family members, he said.
