I thought we were going to be working on a fatality, one emergency official told KPRC-TV in Houston.
Bystanders scrambled to rescue the woman.
A lot of volunteers used bare hands, anything they could, said Hank Taylor, who took part in the rescue.
Having trouble breathing
After she was recovered from her vehicle, efforts were made to calm the woman down because she was struggling to breathe. However, she was conscious and was taken to hospital.
The 18-wheeler had reportedly been trying to get around a vehicle and was switching lanes when the accident happened. The sudden movement caused its load to shift and that caused the truck to flip over.
