Question:
So there's this guy that I work with that was willing to give his 94' red 3000 GT to me for free.
Only problem is there is over 200,000 miles on the car and it has never gotten an oil change.
When we floored the car, it took about a 3/4 of a block for it to reach 40 mph.
It smells like dead rat when you turn on the heater and it is an automatic.
We didn't want to know anything else about the car because it was late and cold.
So right now I am wondering, should I take it or no?
Should I take the car and just give it an engine swap? because it already needs one either way.
And my guys friends told me to drop a turbo in there eventually if I decided to take it.
Also if I am getting the car, what engine should I put in there and what else should I do to fix up the car? Any mods?
A reason why I don't want this car is because I am 17 and my parents are getting me a car when I am 18 or 21 at my choice.
Answer:
if its free, why not take it and sell it?
Answer:
never had an oil change....200k miles.....what the...
Answer:
if it's not a vr4.. just take it, clean it up a little and sell it.
it's not exactly the easiest project car to work on. trust me, my friends and i have a 3000gt vr4 project car. that car just has way too many electronic parts and it weighs some ungodly amount. (active aero, 4 wheel steering, active suspension, twin turbo, blahhhhhhhh. we should have gotten a 240sx instead) i'll take your 3000gt dash though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) we jacked ours up.
Answer:
a free body, considering if it's rust free and no damages, i'd take it. I'd part it out or drop about a thousand for a used motor/rebuild (stock motor, no use to converting to turbo) and you'd have a decent driver or you can turn around and sell it.
Answer:
if you don't want to fix it up. you can take parts that are still in good condition and sell them.
Answer:
you could take it and sell it or part it out. personally im too lazy to do that and wouldnt want to hassel with it. i definitely wouldnt keep it. 3000 gt's suck huge amount of nut sack (yes even the vr4, but that doesnt suck the whole sack).

lol
no disagreement here. vr4 sucks balls.
Answer:
if it's free, why not?
you can strip it, sell the frame and various parts on ebay or wherever.
there's always ppl looking for these things.
and even if you don't decide to part it out,
you can just take it to screw around with and play bumper cars or something
hahaha
Answer:
take it and part it. its free, why not. poor car, never got an oilchange.
Answer:
well i would take it if it was free.

Not when you do a 4-wheel launch from a stand-still at 5k rpm on an over-boosted VR4 (14psi)... it feels DAMN GOOD. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) At least it did until the crank eventually broke on it...
To the thread-starter... I'd take it and sell it.
Answer:
=/ i think you shoudl take it o_o not all things in life are free in turn of getting a free car your takign his burden off of his hands ^^

yeah you'd be surprised at some of the stuff people do and what the car can take. i've seen a valve cover of a bmw taken off and it was like a gelatin mold. the owner never chaged the oil, i was surprised it was still running. the engine was shot, but it was still runing....sorta
Answer:
the junk yard will give you like 200
Answer:
My mom drove her Buick for like 30k with no oil change when I was a child. She told me she didn't know because my dad never told her. I don't blame her, but damn...
I say buy it if you can handle it, don't if you don't know how to deal with fixing the car or parting it out.
Answer:
any free car is a good car.
running or not.

you can take it and sell it if you don't have any intention of keeping it.
Answer:
as many have said...if its free, then y not take it and sell ? =P

jeez, would using seafoam a couple times even do anything at that point?
I could just imagine a mechanics face when the next owner decides to give it an oil change
