Question:
i know HP doesn't mean everything, but wat is considered a decent amount of HP for a performance car?
Answer:
I look at the potentional...not how much hp it comes with. Anyways is that Ueto Aya on your avatar?
Answer:
cars are getting quicker and quicker from factory lately.
I would look at overall performance more than HP numbers. But i would think around 300whp is decent for a performance car. Dont need alot of power to take corners and have fun. If you are into drag or topend straightline, the more the better.
Answer:
it depends on the car. for my miata it probably barely makes 100whp but its still really fun. it may not sound like a lot (cause its not) but id be willing to bet it will scare any of you if you got a ride. my rx7 has about 320ish whp and that feels about perfect for the back roads. for a fwd car like a the dc2 itr i like around 200-220whp n/a.
Answer:
i'd rather see numbers in performance, not the brochure. and an overall balanced car is worth more than you think.
Answer:
Well it depends what you mean by a performance car.
I'd say 200 is a decent number.
300 is a little too much for me.
Answer:
also take into account the timeslips you want to run on a 1/4 mile if you're into that, and the weight of your car. 12s , 13s, 14s. I've seen old heavy f-bodies run 15-16s on 200-250hp as opposed to an import that would maybe hit 14s with the same hp.
Answer:
Honestly, 200-250HP is more than enough for a street car.
Answer:
I look more into performance. If it has a good performance rating then ya. But around 200whp is good for me.
Answer:
around 300-350whp and i would be satisfied.
Answer:
Seriously I wouldnt want more than 220 - 250whp on my day to day driver and street car....My mr2 was making about 220whp and it was pretty fregign fast, well to me at least.
My RS is probably making closer to 120whp haha...its still fun to drive but a perfect setup for me would be around 200whp, no more, no less. That would just be an awesome car to drive all around.

Isn't that what's in the brochure, usually? ;p

200-250 is enough for me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Answer:
eh.. for a daily driver or something that will be frequently driven on the street i would shoot for about 300-350 for the most fun. my rx7 has 524 rwhp...its fun for the occasional street fling but it really freakin sucks to drive that thing daily.
Answer:
Depends on what type of performance car.
For drag racing, you need at least 1000 hp.
For circuit racing, it depends on which class you enter because they all have different regulations. Some have a 300 hp cap, others 500, etc.
For bragging rights it depends on the car and engine. A Mini Cooper with 400 hp would be something to brag about, whereas 550 hp for a Dodge Viper can't be bragged about since that's the stock figure (you can brag about 1100 hp supercharged though).
But for normal street applications, it depends on the driver's skill and experience. 350 hp tops, any more than that is not practical and is just asking for trouble. I remember reading in Car and Driver a couple years ago that since the Viper first came out, something like 39 drivers crashed their cars right as they first drove out of the dealership.
Answer:
1000 Hp is nowhere near decent
