Question:
I am having a navy mohair suit made up. The jacket will have a ticket pocket, and will be worn as an odd jacket at times. How many buttons would you recommend on a jacket such as this that serves dual purpose?
Answer:
As many as you want ;) I don't think there are any rules: one or two buttons would look a bit dated or excentric, three or four are the safe choice.

Answer:
I love two buttons--it's traditional Brooks Brothers.
Answer:
I thought of 2 or 3 myself. Perhaps 2 for now, and add one if I feel like it in future :tounge:
Answer:
I think it depends on your size/arm length. I go with 3 or 4 every time because I have long arms and 2 buttons look out of proportion with the sleeve.
Answer:
I have a brown YSL mohair jacket that has (as you can see) 3 tigereye buttons.
Answer:
I suggest four. It's a suit.
Answer:
Given that you want the jacket to do double duty, I think three buttons might be a good compromise. Two will look odd when using it as a suit, and four will work against the effort to use it as an odd jacket.
Answer:
4 sleeve buttons on a sportcoat is a lot less wierd than 3 sleeve buttons on a suit.
