Question:
Hey everyone!
I am in a very celebratory mood, so I have decided to buy myself a tie.
I have almost absolutely no preference (this is just a gift to myself), but I would like a darker tie since I am oriental (Korean to be exact).
I usually wear white shirts, pointed collars, nothing fancy. Dark navy suit. Some with light stripes.
Any recommendations? If the recommended tie is available online, I would love to see some pictures / links. I live in Manhattan, so I am also up for going tie shopping in person. Where do you guys recommend I go?
thanks guys! This is fun for me!

best thing to do when one of these urges comes over you is to spread the love, and buy from Forum members. The two links above will take you everywhere you need to go :)
p.s. welcome to here & have fun picking a tie (according to diorshoe, both brown and paisly are "in" this fall for neckwear)
Answer:
Joel is right. and the pickings for great ties is huge this current wave on buying and selling forum. lot of david chus, isaia 7folds (THIS IS MY FAVORITE so far), good deals on used ties in very mint condition, everybody is selling ties.
i coincidentally am selling one too. a dark blue paisley 7fold brand new very cheap. i am unloading it so i can upgrade to a david chu 7 fold i just bought from pfrog.
it is a very rich and beautiful tie. it comes with nice cufflinks too.
and welcome to the forum. i am korean as well
Answer:
I can indeed attest to Diorshoe's description of this tie. If it's celebratory that you want, this is it--really colorful, lush, and striking.

It looks like David and Noina didn't come out with their paisley's in July, as planned. Did I simply miss them?
I'll second the recommendations for Sam Hober and fourinhand ties.

Finally... You remembered! (without me prompting you ;) )

Answer:
Hi Thinman,
We ended up very busy and had to stop accepting orders for this summer back in July so that we could have all orders completed before we go on vacation.
We are going to have another baby and this time we will be in Thailand so that Noina can have her mother and family nearby when the baby is born.
As for the paisleys we have them but since we are not currently accepting orders we did not take photos yet.
Roughly in October we will be taking new orders and making the paisleys available. We have been putting aside silk that we will bill for when we are ready to make the ties probably in October.
We have many new projects underway. One of which is that we will be expanding our current offerings of 100 or so pocket squares to many more.
Speaking of projects, I never received a crayon illustration that someone was going to send me.....

Rush Limbaugh had some striking ties back in the late 90's. I personally own two and I think they are extremely eye catching and I got some nice compliments when wearing them. And it has a GOLD CHAIN!!!! =]

Answer:
Joel and Co. have it slightly wrong. The best thing to do in this situation is to share the love and buy ties _for_ forum members. Like me. You'll feel better about yourself, and get to share your celebration. Remember, when you laugh, the whole world laughs with you, but when you cry, you cry alone.
Answer:
Don't wanna break your celebratory mood, but I believe "Asian" is a better word to use. If you're a vase then you could be oriental. :)
Answer:
Oriental sounds so much cooler than Asian though!
Answer:
Until a few years ago when the PC police got hold of it, oriental was a perfectly good word to apply to people as well as objects.
