Tailoring Question: How Do I Slim Trouser Thigh Area?

Question:
I'm never buying from BR again, these trousers I got on sale are way too full of a cut.
I like the fabric however, and if it is worth it, will slim them down in the thigh area.
How much would a tailor usually charge to do this?
How would I do this myself? Could I start below the pocket? Do I need to take in both the inner and outer seam? I probably need to take out about 3" in thigh area. If I don't have to recut the pockets, it doesn't seem like too tough of a thing to do.
Answer:
my tailor charges around $20 to slim the legs on my trousers. they can take it in through the crotch and seat, or take a little from both side seams which i prefer. i've never tried this myself, but it's worth the cost for me to have my tailor do it..
Answer:
For $20 I'd pay to have them do it, anymore than $30 or so and I'd look to do it myself or start saving for a new pair of pants.
Answer:
i agree, i probably wouldn't pay $30 either. i just get really good prices from my tailor
Answer:
I would not recommend trying this.
There are specific reasons a pair of trousers would be taken in either in the crotch, outseam & inseam, or the back. Also, unless you want to re-make the pockets, the thigh area won't change too dramatically.
Bring it to a tailor and tell them what you want.
Answer:
I usually buy a size down and open up the waist. That sometimes does the trick.
Answer:
my tailor who is not cheap charges $30 for the works - thigh, seat, and hem on a pair of pants.
Answer:
I got quoted $95 for similar alterations, Tarmac. I'm unlucky or you're lucky, but I refused to pay that much for tailoring on a pair of $110 pants.
Answer:
I was just charged $25 for slimming the thighs/seat and taking the waist in on a pair of suit pants.
Answer:
Sartorian, Cleanport (drycleaner with alterations) on 102 between Bway and Amsterdam charages $30. I just got a pair of trousers slimmed down from the seat down to the hem and I'm pretty satisified...esp considering the fact that it only took 2 days.
