Question:

Hi everyone,
I just bought a brookes brothers trench coat that a seller sold as a mens model. It's made in korea with striped lining patterns. As I search on ebay, I begin to see very similar models with the exact specification and tag as the one I bought, but sold as "misses" or women models. Will I look out of place if I do ended up wearing a women model? The measurements fit me perfectly (and I was surprised) and now this makes more sense that it may be a women's model as the sleeves are shorter for my chest measurements than other coats I have. The model looks very similar to the attached link above. Looks very masculine to me....except for the overall length and sleeve length, both I would prefer to be shortened on a mens model in my size.
You think I can wear it without behind the back snickering? :o
Answer:
Don't womens' and mens' coats button different sides? If the fit is otherwise good (check the area around the waist and hips) and you like the shorter length, that'll be the main difference. Those in the know will notice, but I really doubt that most people will notice or care. Where are you planning to wear this coat?
Answer:
Men's coats button on the right, but on a DB, it's going to be pretty hard for people to tell. If it fits right, wear it until you find something you like better.

I plan to wear this in the hospital or to the mall or to Sunday mass services. Or maybe I'll just give this to the GF if it fits her. I got it for 40 dollars on ebay it's not too bad.
Answer:
wow. :worship: You guys are dead on. I look at the pictures more carefully and realize that the column of button holes are all on the right and my london fog coat (men size) is on the left. lesson learned. I will be more careful with coats in S,M,L,XL marking next time.
Just curious, besides the folding direction, are there any other subtle differences that designers use to femininize this very masculine style of coat?
Thanks. again. :worship:
Answer:
You might find bust darts (look for two vertical seams on the front below chest level) and/or waist suppression in a women's coat - also they will typically be shorter and may flare more noticeably at the bottom. Just think of a dress shape, and they might push it toward that cut. Men's trenches are generally very straight up and down cut.
