Question:
I was looking at this camel hair sport jacket/blazer and I tried it on and the tailor pinned it all. It looked great but the sleeves were really long, when i closed my hand with my fingers against my palm I could feel fabric. I asked him if I should shorten the sleeve length as well since there was no way any cuff could be seen and he said that with a casual jacket you don't show cuff.
Opinions? I 've looked at lots of pictures of blazers and sport jackets here and I see cuff showing all the time.

The guy was snowing you to make a quick sale. Some cuff is always going to look better. I think there are two possible exceptions: on heavy tweeds that you intend to wear as outerwear in bad weather conditions (in which case I'd finish the sleeves like those on an overcoat), and on summer jackets that you intend to wear only over some kind of short-sleeve shirt.

Tailors always seem to have an initial reluctance at first to shortening sleeves. You have to condition them to notice this. In my experience the alterations tailor who spots this for you is a rarity.

in spite of what management advertises to the customers, the tailors have orders to do as little alterations as possible. i know, bin there done that.

Since it is camel air, you'll want to show some cuff. Tailors are so shady, took me a couple months but after a while I learned to take my tailor by the balls and tell him to listen to me. I still argue with him when he messes up and he tries to give me the run around.
If the blazer is more casual and less structured, I think sometimes it can look fine to have the sleeves show no cuff, and if the look permits, have them a little long even.
