Advice for a casual suit

Question:
Hello gentlemen,
I just found this forum, and I can see that it's going into my list of daily, must-read forums. Thanks for all your contributions and advice.
I'm in the market for a new suit. Here's my challenge. I'm not an investment banker. I work in the software industry, so I'm trying to find something that's relatively casual, something that I can wear to a job interview (which seem to have become increasingly informal over the last 5 years) or to an informal dinner with the wife. Most of the suits that I see in department stores tend toward what I would call "formal." Lots of plain colors (blue and gray), pinstripes, or shiny fabrics.
I've searched the archives here but didn't find anything specific to my situation. Can you offer suggestions as to where to shop? I work in New York City, so I'm sure there are many options. I just need to be set in the right direction. I'm looking for something blue with a bold or very small pattern (but no pinstripes).
Thanks again in advance!
Answer:
You could do blue birdseye, with or without a windowpane pattern.
Or a donegal tweed-- perhaps 3 piece with patch pockets. Only you will know if your Irish setter is the right color to complement.
Maybe a flannel, if you don't wear it every other day.
Answer:
I think anything with a windowpane type pattern, or in colors other than navy, charcoal or black would look casual. Browse through the 2nd fl of Bergdorf Goodman during your lunch break. You'll see plenty of casual fabrics and hopefully get a few ideas.
