Question:
Can anyone suggest a skilled tailor in the Los Angeles/Pasadena area? I'd like someone that can not just do the normal alterations, but be talented enough to do major surgery on a suit jacket if the need arises.
Thanks.
Answer:
A bit out of your way from Pasadena, but Charles the Tailor on Olympic in Beverly Hills is excellent. I also like Paul at Wilshire Tailor, which is on Wilshire between Crescent Heights and Fairfax.
Answer:
How major?
I had the shoulders narrowed on a Canali suit and the collar shortened on a Zegna at Giacomo Tailoring, 14748 Whittier Blvd, Whittier, CA 90605. Tel: (562) 693-3302. My only disappointment: he does no do working cuff buttons.

Answer:
I use Bill Cairo Tailor on Huntington in San Marino. I've had them do some extensive reworking on a couple of coats, as well as routine initial tailoring on new OTR suits. I've had a couple of times when I needed them to tweak something because it didn't come out as expected, but they fixed it for me.
They do working sleeve buttons for $10 or $12 per--I had them do it on an Isaia last year and they did a really nice job.

Thank you for your recommendations. San Marino works out great as does the Beverly Hills establishment ( I work in Century City). At the San Marino tailor shop, I'm assuming that the $10-$12 price is for each buttonhole and not for each sleeve right?
Thanks again.
Answer:
If you go with Charles in BH, he's at Olympic and Sweetzer, or thereabouts. It's a two-story mini-mall on the south side of the street; Charles is upstairs, at the eastern edge of the structure.

Charles is at Olympic and Lapeer. He has done major surgery on a couple jackets for me and they came out perfect. He ain't cheap, though.
Answer:
Yes, that's the price per button.
Answer:
I like Paul at Wilshire. He does what you want and his prices are reasonable and his turnaround time is to my liking.
Answer:
+1 On Paul at Wilshire. I took Laweydad's advice (old post).
I had a new LB Sportscoat adjusted last week. Not cheap, though amazing work and Paul is a nice guy to boot.
