"Liberty of London" - in Macy's?

Question:
'Got the colorful flier from Macy's connected with this weekend and was extremely curious to come across a photo showing a man in a sweater with its giving a sale price of $19.95 as the "low est price of the season" for cotton sweaters from Geoffrey Beene, Northern Isles, [i]Liberty[i], and Oscar de la Renta. Orig. $55-70." I was thinking - could this possibly be THE "Liberty of London" (often referred to as plain "Liberty")? The company I was entranced with when in London in July? The company with that fabulous flagship store and all that marvelous menswear such as ties but also many, many other items? Our Macy's around Greater Cleveland (formerly May Co., then Kaufmann's) are not all that tremendous as departments stores but I was thinking possibly, possibly....
So I went there last evening to seek out the sweaters and see what they looked like and the labels. I started by asking the young guy there if he could locate them for me, as there were various groups of sweaters around. First he whipped out the catalog and opened it to two pages with men's sweaters. It didn't look right and I recalled there were more than two pages - another grouping elsewhere. He took out another flier which I knew wasn't the one, then I looked through the catalog, after he had said there was only one grouping of men's sweaters in there, and eventually found the sweater in question on an earlier page....
First the guy misread it and suggested "Liberty" might just be a "style," but I convinced him no - it was listed like other designers there.... He said he's the "manager" of I'm not sure if he said the men's department, or that part of it or whatever, but he said he was not aware of any sweaters with the "Liberty" label.
We started hunting around and finally found some designers in the ad, such as Oscar de la Renta, and finally came upon the grouping where they sign said "Liberty."
I looked at the labels on these sweaters which said the "Liberty" but that they were made in the U.S., etc. I saw no possibility of a tie-in with the great London enterprise. So much for that.
I then explained to the guy how I was interested in knowing if they actually had clothing from Liberty of London and asked him if he ever heard of it. He said no - he was not familiar with London department stores. I explained Liberty of London is very important in the history of design, etc. He said no, he was unaware of them and mentioned he has a Master's degree in something or other. I mentioned I have Art History degrees, etc. Anyways, I think he learned something and, more to the point, he should have been more aware of what is on display in his department, don't you think?
Does anyone know anything about this American "Liberty" brand?
Answer:
He was aware of what was in his department. He carries cheap goods like every other Macy's and he certainly doesn't need to be aware of "Liberty of London." Don't you have anything better to do than harass department store employees with your Art History degree?
Answer:
Please read my post more carefully. No, he didn't know what was in his department. He had clothing with Liberty, Oscar de la Renta, etc. and he didn't know he had Liberty and had to walk around with me just to find where each designer was.
He also brought up degrees first, implying a degree has some relevancy with what he knows or doesn't know about clothing which, incidentally, is his chosen field.

Answer:
The problem is your post is poorly written and a pain to read. It's loaded with irrelevant information.
Answer:
wow, for some inexplicable reason I went back and read the whole thing
you already answered your own question posed in your subject line - the answer is no
I don't know what liberty is, but it has nothing to do with what you saw in Macys. Is it really that hard to believe that more than one clothing brand could use "liberty" in their name?
Answer:
There's no connection, if he told you he had no idea what you were babbling about, he was correct.
Harass SF'ers with his art history degree?

Dear macuser3of5:
Nothing like one of those self-absorbed types that lurks around some of these forums. Perhaps you don't care about designers, or the image or reputation of a store with as long and extremely successful history as Macy's, but there's a whole world out there and some in this particular forum actually care about who designed what, the quality, and perhaps if someone with the "Manager" title is even aware of what merchandise there is in his fairly small department/jurisdiction. The guy was not good and I don't know what your problem is except you sound like a loser.
Tarmac, you still didn't read my original post very well, and did you ever hear of capitalizing a brand name? You sound like an all-around sourpuss.
Answer:
So you yourself concluded that they were simply capitalizing on a brand name and it was not the same brand, yet you still hung around the store asking if they ever heard of the brand, talking about your college degrees, insulting him, wasting his time, asking pointless questions AND after all that you had to bring it here too?
You are like that guy who hangs out at my local 7-Eleven talking about FBI conspiracies all day.

Edit: Was mancuser on purpose? If so, try harder.
Answer:
Some poor reading skills, here.
No, I didn't conclude anyone was capitalizing on a name. "Liberty" is a pretty common word; I was asking if anyone here heard of a U.S. brand with that name and rather than going along with one of the purposes of the here, as would be the useful thing to do, a few concentrated on the nasties.
The guy was doing nothing when I found him, and there were no other customers. Hence, no time wasting.
He brought up degrees, out of the blue.
You two: get a life.
Answer:
Apparently nobody has - we should all work at Macy's, I guess
Answer:
I'm not exactly sure why everyone is bashing on Lafont.
But I agree macy's sells crap. So don't be surprised that you were disappointed.
Also, I wouldn't put much credence on a "manager" title at Macy's. I think you were expecting too much. Really.
