Winter Clothing

Question:
What are you guys on the east coast doing for winter clothing? This s my first winter on the east and its really cold already. I have a down jacket and some fleeces. What else would you guys recommend? Im thinking of getting a north face base layer or something similar....no peacoat suggestions please.
Answer:
In my opinion, a good compromise might be this jacket from Marmot. It is by no means formal, but I like it a lot for non dressy occasions. LIke going out or just around town.

Answer:
Im all about layering. Long Johns, 2 pairs of socks (1 thick wool and 1 normal), a long sleeve shirt, a sweater, wool/heavy cotton pants or heavy denim, and finally a wool jacket of some kind. Im also a firm believer in keeping my extremeties warm by wearing gloves, a hat, leather boots, and a scarf.
Long Johns are the key though, you don't need high tech Mt. gear if youve got some proper layering underneath. You can wear a lighter jacket and still be warm enough to walk around the city for a few hours.
