Are side tabs appropriate for investment banking interviews?

Question:
Hey guys,
Planning on making a few suits and pants in the next couple of days. Was wondering, are side tab pants appropriate for investment banking interviews and the general workplace. Would some people think that you are weird for not wearing a belt? Also, say I receive a female interviewer who does not understand side tabs and thinks that I am sloppy and not wearing a belt.
I know that these banks tend to be very conservative and deviations from the norm are considered weird. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Answer:
It's OK
Answer:
you're overthinking it and very few, if anyone, will notice your side tabs especially since you are going to have you jacket on during an interview.
Answer:
Bingo. I've never, ever noticed whether an interviewee was even wearing a belt, let alone if they had side tabs. I also commend you on your choice (assuming you take our advice).
Answer:
You should have your jacket on and no one will notice.
Answer:
Even if they do notice, it's still OK
Answer:
Thanks for leading me the right way guys. Appreciate the great advice as always.
May I ask one more quick question? I'm thinking about making a charcoal 3 roll 2 suit and a navy chalkstripe 3 roll 2 suit as well.
What would you suggest for the linings? I want it to be unique since bespoke is so expensive however I'm not so sure about attracting unwanted attention. I was thinking a deep purple for the first lining and a bright gold for the navy suit. I think the latter may be too loud.
I'm not too sure what suit lining is best? Is it cupro bemberg? If you have any suggestions on lining fabric and color, please feel free to post them.
Thanks again,
Answer:
I went to a wedding a few weeks ago, I decided not to wear a belt. As soon as I stepped out of my car, someone said "hey did you forget your belt?"
Answer:
If one's jacket is on, then how can people know you aren't wearing braces?
Answer:
Was that the same guy who was proudly wearing the square-toed plasticky Kenneth Cole loafers and was stepping on his 4-inch-too-long suit pants?
Answer:
A few people have asked me the same question, and when I show them the side tabs, they are quite taken by them and then proceed to tell me how they hate belts. Just part of spreading the word.
Answer:
Yes, absolutely. I'm just saying, 90% of people (who are wearing KC square toes and a matching KC belt) will think you forgot your belt.
Answer:
I think a colored lining especially in bright shades will cause more of a stir then side tabs. (& your lining will peek out since you have it, you'll be tempted to move in an oh so certain way to show it). unless you're in london where colored linings seem to be a staple & a way for staid, serious brits advancing the cause of the empire to show personality. i like side tabs and have them on most trousers but i invariably suffer the comment, not joke, about wearing my sansabelts.
Answer:
Be careful to avoid going down the path of thinking that because a suit will be bespoke, you must make it unique with all sorts of ostentatious features. Perfect fit, excellent fabric, and the silhouette are the defining aspects and tell tale signs of bespoke work. And this is not so much about the lining colors, which I think are fine on their own (certainly the deep purple) and really, the only people who will see the lining colors are those that you want to see the lining colors. This is more about contrast color threads for pick stitching and button holes and other weird eccentricities that some people impose in the name of uniqueness or customization.
