Question:
Hi,
I'll be visiting my tailor in a few days to get some chinos. However, I would like to go there "prepared" - meaning with a clear picture in my head (or on paper) on how they should look like and what features they should have.
I've been searching around a little bit but couldn't come up with anything satisfactory yet. I'm looking for a slim cut - thats all I know for now.
What makes the perfect chinos? Features, cut, material et cetera....
Any help (runway pictures, detailed pictures etc.) and/or your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Mr. Gieves
Answer:
I like these. In fact, I just ordered three more pairs. Use the code RL30 at checkout and get an addiitonal 30% off.

Answer:
Are they that slim? RL tends to pin the hell out of the clothes on the site. Sometimes what you receive bears little resemblance to what they advertise.

Answer:
I agree but these are pretty slim. Dior Homme, no but they are nice and trim especially at the ankle which I like.
Answer:
its a good price, yoyu could always buy & return if it doesn't meet your needs
Answer:
Hi,
thank you for your quick replies. However, I should mention that ordering online is not an option for me - most pants are too short for me and I like my stuff tailored, anyhow. So, posting pics is just fine. Any more hints?

Answer:
Aren't these a little too light, given their description. Shouldn't real chinos have at least some heft to them?
Answer:
True enough. Or alter.

Bespoke or MTM, then?
Answer:
i just bought those featherweight custom fits 2 weeks ago and sent them back last week. they are tapered to the ankle which i like but they were by no means slim fitting. the waist and lower leg were good, but they were kinda baggy in the seat and thighs. I am by no means a super skinny guy, so if they were baggy on me, they would really be roomy on a slimmer fellow. it's weird though, because their made in italy wool trousers which go for around 300 are cut super slim and fit me perfect, as do their black label. i was disappointed on the fit of these, based on their pics on the website. in fact, i ordered both the custom fit featherweight and the custom fit tissue chino to compare and sent them both back for thr same reasons. i did happen to try on a pair of dior homme chinos at barney's recently and they fit like a dream but i couldnt justify the still $218+tax price tag for a simple pair of khakis. i am still in the hunt for a slim pair, so anyone knows of a good pair please let us know!
Answer:
Bill's are left unhemmed, so you can get extra length out of them. In fact, you could probably get two pairs out of each once you alter to slim them down.

Bespoke. So, almost everything is possible.
Keep those pictures coming... :)

i want to mention that i got a pair of m3 bills...was the first thing i got after havin lurked here for a bit...they are awesome...they will tailor the hem for ya too...not bad for 100 bux...they are substantial also...well worth it...nice fit in the waist and seat...not exactly like an "italian" fit...but very nice indeed
Answer:
Ask Andy About Clothes had a RAGING argument Re. Bill's M3's.
You should see the conspiracy theories, economics lessons, & extreme finger pointing. I can only imagine what their blood pressure readings must be;)
Answer:
I had the same problem with Polo's Custom Fit Chinos (the fall-winter weight). The waist and ankles were trim, but the seat and thigh areas were bulgy.
I am still looking for khakis that fit trim in the latter areas.
