Serendipitous Finds

Question:
Long story short, I find myself in D.C., with limited time, and in need of a shirt to wear at dinner. There's a Filene's Basement virtually across the street from my hotel, so I run over there, and stumble upon (don't roll your eyes now . . .) Vineyard Vines dress shirts. The retail price is $125, but Filene's is blowing them out at like $50. I liked the stripes, so I bought two shirts, not expecting much.
Now I'm no Vineyard Vines fan, let's get that straight, but these were pretty nice shirts. A decent cotton poplin with vivid colors, single-needle, thick buttons. I liked them enough that when I was in Chicago strolling by a Filene's B, I ducked in and bought another two shirts. I'd probably pass on them at $125, but at $50 to $80? All day long.
Caveats: The patterns and the collars aren't for everyone. Collar is a bit blocky, zero space that looks odd with larger tie knots (IMHO), and the stripes and checks are rather "Groton reunion on Nantuckett in the golden days".
Anybody else accidentally stumble on unexpected gold, or at least tarnished silver?
Answer:
Several years ago (about 6), before they remodeled Sawgrass Mills mall, and the Polo Outlet use to carry actual ‘overstock and closeout’ merchandise and not clothing made specifically for the outlet, I found a 38S RLPL (Chester Barrie) cashmere and silk herringbone SB 3-button jacket, with ticket pocket for $100! The sleeves were unfinished and the buttons were still inside the jacket! I think the retail back then was close to $2000. :slayer:

my wife got a couple of Tumi bags for 10 dollars each, that was very cool.
she's also got me a grey Hugo Boss suit retail $900+ for only $140. Hugo Boss, but still it was a sweet deal.

Recently, on a whim, I bought a couple pairs of brand new 'handmade' Marc Jacobs boots on ebay, for $98 apiece. When I recieved the first pair I peeked inside, expecting to find Blake stitching like pretty much all the 'handmade' shoes coming out of Italy. There was no blake stitching, the suckers were actually hand welted!! That was a shocker.
Answer:
The main Boston Filene's Basement was overflowing with those. Pretty nice, comparable to the J.Crew Mason shirts that received some love here a couple of years ago.

Dropped into the Brooks Brothers outlet in North Conway, NH to buy an umbrella earlier this month. I normally don't bother too much with the outlets since they make all that "346" stuff specifically for the outlets, and the quality is not that great. Anyway, long story short, I spotted a rack of navy blazers and a couple looked different from the others. For some reason, they had a few Golden Fleece blazers (including a 42R), which had a retail price of over $800.00, on sale for $220.00, which, when combined with the extra 10% off they were running that day, and the lack of a sales tax in NH, got me a Golden Fleece blazer for about $198.00. Never did find an umbrella.
