Question:
I'm trying to actually save money on a few items and I'd really like to find some high quality RTW odd trousers with these specs:
Heavy flannel 13oz+
Plain Waistband (not essential as I can have belt loops removed by a tailor)
High Rise
Suspender Buttons (another feature I can have added by a tailor)
Double Inward Pleats
Unfinished Hem
Thanks,
Chris
ps edmorel and chorse...can you help me out here?
Answer:
RLPL and RL blue label, but the high rise might be a problem depending on what you call high. I think you would have a tough time finding quality pants with more than an 11-12 inch rise, depending on your waist. The plain waistband and forward pleats are an RL signature, but David Chu has done them also, I just have not yet seen them in heavyweight flannel. Again, the rise might be an issue and how much you are willing to spend might be an issue. Expect to pay $150 or so (on the B&S forum) for David Chu or RLPL pants with those specs. At retail, you are looking at $400-600.
Answer:
Thanks ed. I just like them to hang properly off suspenders...so I guess the exact rise isn't that important. Just as long as they're not too low.
Answer:
Why not just go bespoke?
Answer:
Bespoke trousers are well over $1000. I've already spent a ton of money on two bespoke suits and need to conserve my $$ for a little while. $150 - $200 off ebay or the B&S forum vs. say, $1400 from Thomas Mahon.
Additionally, of all the components in a casual ensemble I think odd trousers can stand to be bought off the rack. As long as they are made of quality cloth and hang well that's all that matters to me. Sure they won't be as comfortable or hang as well as my Mahon trousers do, but neither will I be as alarmed if they get ripped or stained.
Answer:
I think your best bet is likely the Andover shop. You will be surprised at the relatively low cost (though I can't recall what it is). They don't really have much of a web presence - it is mostly just pages from their catalog. Check the site first to get a sense of the price if you want, and then call their Cambridge location.
Answer:
Thanks dopey...I completely forgot about the Andover shop. Going there right now..
Answer:
Also...to answer my own question...I could always send my Mahon trousers to LS Men's clothing for Dario Rodriguez to copy. I know that will be a bit more than something from the B&S forum, but at least then I'd be able to pick a high quality cloth.
Answer:
Is the Andover Shop in Atlanta? If so where abouts? Dig the tune.
Answer:
Not here in Atlanta...I meant I was going there in a virtual manner via the internet
Thanks! I just recorded three more which I'll post shortly.

Answer:
Well...after I figure in the price of a plane ticket...:)
Answer:
try a rtw manufacturer that makes also makes m2m. you can have any rise you wish, also the forward pleats and suspender buttons, and the cuffs. best of all no bill from the tailor.
Answer:
Chris Despos also makes a wonderful bespoke pant and I believe that his standard wool price is a touch short of 1k. Not cheap, but perhaps a bargain.
Answer:
when your are on vacation you dont need to count the cost of those kinds of things
just dont come in october or april and stay over from sunday to thursday and it will be quite good value for money!
