Alden size/last question

Question:
Quick question for any Alden Barrie last afficionados...
If I am normally a 7.5D on Barrie (US 8 in everything else)....would the 7E barrie last fit?
thanks in advance
Answer:
Depends on how your feet fit in the 7.5D. The 7E would probably work but also probably wouldn't be your best option.
Answer:
thanks Tom...hmmm there is also an 8E avail
7E or 8E for someone who should be 7.5D??
frame of reference, I can wear AE 8.5D no problem, even tho AE 8D is a perfect fit
Answer:
Go small. FWIW, I'm an 11.5 E but an 11 E in the Barrie last.
Answer:
Go small for the cordovan chukka as it's Alden's largest fitting shoe.
Answer:
I'm wondering why you would get a 7E if 7.5D fits...maybe availability of the 7E? Anyway there are a couple things to consider.
First, the E heel is wider than the D heel. So if the D heel fits ok, the E will be much looser.
Second, the 7 will be a cm or so smaller than the 7.5. If your toe is near the front of the 7.5, the 7 might be too short.
Your feet will probably be swimming in the 8E if the 7.5D fits ok.
About those chukkas...in my opinion they are a pretty "forgiving" shoe in terms of fit. Depending on my mood, I tie them tight or loose, and they still feel great. Can't say the same about my plain toe bluchers.
Answer:
I fit either 9.5D or 9E, both of which feel slightly too loose when I first purchase them and snug up after a few weeks wear (shell). I have six Barrie last pairs.
Answer:
edit, sorry did not read your post correctly
Jason, you will have the same width i believe but the length will be a 1/8 inch shorter.
that in such, actually will make your width feel snugger as well, because the taper starts earlier, but in the case of Barrie, that may be negligible as there hardly is any taper for the toebox!
it is a gunboat last and a E in my opinion dramatically enhances the gunboat look , which may or may not sit well with each person.
Answer:
right on, thanks for the replies! I guess I'll have a good idea once the 7.5D comes in, which I don't doubt will fit fine, if I can afford to size down a tad and not have my toes crushed in.
Answer:
Jason just remember shell cordovan will not stretch like calf , which gives in a little and is more flexible with your feet after awhile.
in shell, if it is snug , it will be snug the rest of its life. if it crunches your toes, it will crunch your toes the rest of its life.
