DO or Don't?:Moto jacket around town?

Question:
When one is not riding do these jackets just look plain stupid? Nascar jackets were big in my home in new england amoung younger people and gearheads, is this something that shouldn't be worn just around town? My riding jacket is ugly but I don't see the sense in buying this if I can't just wear it to go out. I don't think it can be pulled off. opinions?
Answer:
Those, hell no. A plain black leather one, yeah.
Answer:
Yeah why not just get a plain leather Belstaff or something. Same functionality but you can also use it around town.
Answer:
Are those nylon? If so, and if they fit slim like a race team jacket should, I would put it in the category of a track jacket with the caveat that you should actually ride to be wearing it. I might wear an old vintage one if I had one.
But yeah, I'd prefer a good leather jacket (no armor) instead.
Answer:
Check out this Gucci moto style jacket being sold by a SF member here
That would look good around town.
I'm not affiliated with the seller.
Answer:
I think real motorcycle jackets are cool. Even more so if you ride. I don't see how a $3000 Gucci lambskin faux "motostyle" jacket is cooler than the real thing.

He already has a riding jacket though. That Gucci would look pretty sweet around town for "just going out" IMO.
Answer:
Do. Especially something like a Vanson.

This is what I have. But black with a green stripe instead of orange stripe. It used to be my riding jacket. I've since quit riding on the street. (I only race, now, and have a full Vanson custom suit for that.) I think it is a silly thought that I not wear such a beautiful jacket as I have simply because I don't ride on the street anymore. I rock this jacket with pride around town.
Answer:
mm.. well someone agrees.. but there is no consensus. i havea beat up jacket thats purely for riding... but I wouldn't mind having one thats nice.. but can that rather flashy jacket be worn around... these are my preference for riding.. but not exactly a "vanson"
Answer:
Like I said I might wear one, esp. a vintage(looking) one, but it would have to fit slim and be worn with plain, non-douchey everything else.
Answer:
these jackets look stupid if you don't have the balls to wear them without asking what other people think..........
Answer:
I think they´re hardly ever convincing unless you actually rode a bike. Everything else would be trying too hard.
