Turnbull & Asser Says Other Shirtmakers are Con Artists

Question:
Take a look at their Google adwords;
Jermyn St Shirts For £25?
NO, Those are a Con, Made Overseas!
The Real McCoy is Made in the UK by
www.turnbullandasser.co.uk
So, do they have a point?
Answer:
Some of my CT shirts say made in Romania. So maybe they do.
Answer:
T&A shirts are overpriced anyway, so I suggest to buy the con artists shirts instead.
Answer:
Yes, CT and Lewin foreign made shirts are rubbish.
Answer:
Apparently almost all the Jermyn St shops are selling foreign-made shirts, with the exception of T&A and Emma Willis. Emma Willis' shirts are apparently made by Rayner & Sturges. If the shirt you buy on Jermyn St does not have a country-of-origin label, it was probably made outside of the UK, since a UK origin would be a selling point for a shirt sold on Jermyn St. While there is now (basically) no requirement for such country-of-origin labels on clothes in the EU, places like T&A still include the country-of-origin on their labels in order to point to the fact they're UK made.
If you ask around on Jermyn St, you will get a lot of obfuscation, and perhaps lies, as to where the shirts are made.
This also leaves aside the point that for a garment to be "made" in a given country very little of the actual work needs to be done in that country, so even with a country of origin label, the garment could be mostly made elsewhere, if it comes down to it.
Answer:
What about Budd?
Answer:
Forgot about them. Not sure if their shirts are still made in the UK -- haven't been there in a long time. Maybe they are. I liked their shirts. Oddly, when I was there in January of 2006 they had their own-label shirts and then a lot of shirts branded Cleeve of London. I asked if that meant Cleeve was making Budd's RTW and they said no (?!), but that they were seeing how the Cleeve shirts sold.
Answer:
Are Udeshi's RTW shirts made in the UK?
Answer:
I think he reads the fora, so I'll let him answer that.
Answer:
RJ, I assume you are talking about RTW? All the Jermyn Street bespoke makers still make their own, no?
Answer:
I have a book of sorts from T&A that shows in some detail the construction of their shirts and it's impressive. However, I would prefer a Mauozzo or Kiton or Borrelli shirt over them.
Answer:
I think that's the book by Nicholas Foulkes, isn't it?
Answer:
I think you are right.
Answer:
I assume this entire thread is about RTW. I have no firsthand experience with bespoke Jermyn St shirts.
Answer:
Not really bespoke, but I did get measured for some Harvie & Hudson shirts when they visited San Francisco. The shirts I got from that order all had the "Made in England" label. However, the H&H RTW shirts I ordered off their website did not have a "Made in England" label. Where in England the measured ones were made, I can't say, but it seems for the most part, some Jermyn makers have their RTW shirts made outside of England.
Additionally, my RTW Sea Island Cotton and regular cotton T&A shirts both have the "Made in England" labels.
