Hemming bootcut jeans?

Question:
Can bootcut jeans be hemmed while preserving the original hem? Isn't the leg opening somewhat wider, so if the hem is cut and moved up a few inches, how will it be attached to the leg (since it's slightly wider)?
Maybe I should roll the legs up instead? Do you like the rolled-up/cuffed look? I don't usually do it, but I've seen others do it.
Answer:
I've not had problems getting boot cut jeans shortened and than having the original hem put back on. I guess it would depend on how much you would need to take off. I suspect they slightly narrow the lower leg to get the diameter to the original hem size.
Answer:
It is not a problem at all. I have had this done many times. Just make sure you go to a tailor who has done it before, as many of them have never reattached an original hem.
If you cannot find such a tailor, I would recommend going to a nicer store that sells designer jeans, and get them to do it for you, as they will know exactly what you want and how to do it.
