Question:
Perhaps a silly question but can anyone recommend a department store brand (I need something that is easy to find) of dress socks that actually stay up. My dress socks are always coming down and it drives me crazy. Maybe the fault lies with my fat legs:blush:
Thanks.
Answer:
Are you buying over-the-calf? If you insist on crew or mid-calf length, you need to find ones with more elastic. Thorlo would be a good choice for that.
Answer:
I've had bad luck with Nordstrom's own brand of socks and good luck with Neiman's.
Byford, which is a pretty widely available brand seems to have very strong elastic.
Answer:
I am a recent Pantherella convert. Awesome fit and very comfortable
Answer:
A cheap option are the Club Room Macy's house brand socks. They have rubber lined on the inside of the cuff which keep the socks up without cutting off your circulation.
Answer:
To each their own, but I'm one of a number of SF members who have come to feel that if you're going to spend real money on socks instead of just buying whatever is on super-discount at Ross (certainly a reasonable option), Nagrani is better than Pantherella in the same price range. (The sole exception, in my opinion, is that I still like some of my heavier all-wool panterellas for colder weather.) The fit is great, and they definitely stay up. Check out chorse's sales thread, which is about as good a deal as you're going to find on them.
Answer:
I've recently discovered Uniqlo's very inexpensive dress socks. They're mainly cotton with a fair amount of elastic, and they come in a wide variety of patterns and styles. For generic name-brand, they represent a great value. I think they're like 3 for 10 bucks or something like that.
