Harris Shoes at Barneys, any experience with them?

Question:
I just returned from the new Barneys in San Francisco. I saw the Harris line of shoes that I have seen before at their NYC store. They are made in Italy, have a goodyear welted sole, interesting finishing treatment, a more angular sole, higher instep. They appear to have a lot of Italian flair for about $350-$390 a pair.
If you have owned a pair, how did you like them? Are they comfortable? How did they wear? They seem like a good value, especially considering the current state of the Dollar vs. the Euro. Comments???
Answer:
Owned a pair, but I can't really say because they never fit me right. One of those things I bought at a good deal and really it wasn't because they were way to wide for me. Other than that they seem like a pretty decent shoe, I thought they were more of a $600-700 shoe? At $350 they aren't bad.
Answer:
Demeis,
Would you be willing to sell them?
Answer:
I also had a pair that were in the $500 range at retail--I sold them because they were a bit too big. The styling sometimes can be a bit severe--either weighty or odd--but they were really well made. I think that overall they are an excellent value.
Answer:
Well they look pretty cool. Granted, not cool for eveyone but they are surely distinctive and a nice option to Rockports. :bounce2:

i went back to Barney's and looked at them. Yes the price was $495. They look good but I'm thinking there is better. Does anyone have any experience with Bontoni? I know they are a lot more, but they seem to have a lot more going for them. How is the fit and wear?
Answer:
I have a pair of Harris shoes I purchased back in the day off of LA Guy on the forum. They're great shoes (apparently I'm the only one with a pair that fits!). They wear well, they're comfortable, well-made, and I like the styling of the ones I have.

Answer:
I have a pair of the black executives. I like them except I find they actually do not wear that well. I have small feet (7.5) so the long toe on the shoes does not make me look like I have clown feet.
I like them, however I must admit I bought them before discovering this forum. I paid about $425 for them at the Barney's in Boston. More recently I purchased a pair of C&J, which I love infinitely more than the Harris shoes. I really have to say that in that price range you should make the step up to C&J. Go to the store in NYC if you are near by and try on your size then order them from PLAL (that's what I ended up doing).
Recap: I like my Harris shoes but will probably not buy another pair unless I see them on sale at Marshall's (like some ppl on this forum did about a year or so ago). At $150 they are a steal, at $425 you have to live with the fact that you could have gone C&J.
Hope that helps.
Answer:
I bought 2 pairs during the forum frenzy at Marshall's almost 2 years ago. Mine are very comfortable, fit my feet just right, and are wearing well. I like the styling too.
Answer:
I bought a pair from the Shoe Fairy. Fit great, very supple leather, great appearance.
Answer:
:slayer: . Happy to hear you're liking them!
Definitely an undervalued brand.
Answer:
I was particularly impressed by the softness of the leather without the thinness I associate, for example, with Artioli. Great color as well. I had pm'ed to say thanks, but was not sure if you had received.
Answer:
I must have missed it, sorry. I really happy that they found a good home, they will work with just about anything.
