Question:
I just picked up a nice camel colored cashmere overcoat at the Downtown Crossing FB's fire sale. Its soft & lux as hell, and I've never owned outwear that isn't hearty wool. How will this hold up? SHould I treat it gingerly or can it take rain & such (when the seaon comes that is)?
Answer:
mine is 5 years old, I don't treat it gently at all, looks pretty new.
Answer:
I have a dozen or so vintage cashmere overcoats (over 50 years old) and all have held up very well. The only problem is that the linings tend to wear out while the cashmere shows little if any wear.
You might want to consider when overcoats are on sale next winter to get a Loro Piana Storm System cashmere overcoat for the rain and snow.
Answer:
I'm seriously considering a LP overcoat for this winter. Just wondering if i should be getting one when i'm Italy this summer. They have some nice overcoats/jackets.
Answer:
My favorite overcoat is a black cashmere Burberry that I bought shortly after graduating college and have worn everywhere (15 years). The lining is indeed shredded (and that's why it is going to the tailor's), but the coat itself looks great.
Of course it has about 50 years to go to catch up to my tweed coat, but that will be up to my grandsons....
