Question:
I went to my local haberdashery today and I talked to a very nice gentleman there about purchasing a sportcoat. They didn't have anything in my size (36R) so we decided to take a look at the catalogs. We ended up looking into a Herringbone sportcoat from S. Cohen. Two buttoned, eric lapels, two pockets, slanted perhaps. He said it would take about three weeks to a month for them to make it and send it over, and that it would cost about $450 dollars total.
I like the style and the material and hopefully it will fit me nicely, giving me a triangular look that I like jackets to give me.
My question is, do you guys feel that is a reasonable price for this brand and its quality? I haven't dealt with this particular brand before so this is why I'm asking, anyone have previous experience with this brand?
Any opinions are welcome, thank you in advanced.
Answer:
Never heard of S. Cohen, so cannot speak to the quality. However, if you live near a Nieman Marcus Last Call or Saks Off Fifth, there should be plenty of well-made quality sport coats in that price range. If you are willing to pay a little more, you can usually find Isaia and Canali at NM Last Call, and for a little less, Hickey Freeman. I would check Sierra Trading Post, shopthefinest.com, or even the
before I would spend $450 for a coat from a maker I am not familiar with.
